In regards to who that NPC actually is, Bethesda probably just stuck a corpse down there, which is probably unnamed. Unless you can walk up to it and see somebody's name show up (or a generic NPC name), I doubt it's one of the NPCs from the Mage's Guild.

... then again, I really don't know. Maybe it is somebody from that organization. And we can determine this later on by counting heads?

Still don't know why there's suddenly 5 people in the guild hall, again there are only ever 4 Mages here yet now there's a unknown 5Th that's dead? Why would they add a unknown dead corpse when we can find all the others (minus 1) dead on the floor? Just seems odd for 1 little detail, makes you wonder who it was and why they visited at the worse possible time.

P.S in the first Oblivion Gate where you gotta find Martin, one corpse is a easter egg for Darth Vader. Go look.

Maybe the defending mages got off a few Immolating Blasts and that's the body of one of the attackers? This particular quest is why I have only finished the MG questline one time. I always stop right before this one
