Playing with Oblivion XP 4.1.5, using an unofficial http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=31489 that includes two unrelated fixes, after a variable time I stop getting XP from misc. actions (lockpicking, exploring, making new potions, stealing, finding Nirnroot, etc.). I'm guessing something in my load order is breaking just the script that controls misc. XP; XP from everything else (quests, kills, fame and infamy gains, etc.) is working perfectly. Its difficult to test which mod might be causing this since when I load a save XP from everything works until some random time after, and this time seems to change every session. Sometimes I can play for 20 minutes or more before the script breaks, and sometimes it breaks in less than 5 minutes before I even leave the current cell. This happens with all available version of Oblivion XP 4.1.5 I can find: the unaltered version, the OBSE 18b3 version, and the unofficial fix version (which apparently is based off OBSE 18 and is the one I am using right now).

Since the readme says load order doesn't matter with this version, and I have already tried moving the esp around in my load order, I suspected something that changes a low-level process in Oblivion is being problematic. The TESIV:POSItive site mentions that some settings in Streamline can break scripts, but following that advice did not help; at best it might have increased the time before the script breaks. Then I tried disabling Streamline completely, but that did not resolve the problem either. Turning Oblivion Stutter Removal off did nothing as well.

I tried a new game with nothing but Oblivion XP activated and the mod ran fine, except for poison kills not registering consistently despite being on in the ini, but that is another issue and looks like it would require an update. A new game with the load order and OBSE plugins above reintroduces the script break.

One more problem that might be related: in a new game health regeneration is completely not working. Oblivion XP's magicka regen settings work fine though. The weird thing is in my previous character with over a hundred game hours the regen works fine.

It is going to take a long time to do a binary disable-half-the-mods test since I need to rebuild the Bashed Patch constantly and play for potentially a long time for each test, so I ask for load orders with Oblivion XP that are working without this problem. Actually, loads that do have this problem might be more helpful in isolating what the conflict might be, so please post those too.

I've never had any major problems with Oblivion XP, but I don't run any overhaul mods nor do I have a large mod list. However, what does mathfunctions do? Oblvion XP has trig and exponential functions (from OBSE?, not sure if they are vanilla or not), so if you have something that messes with those, you are going to have problems...

Hmm, I knew that OBSE includes advanced math functions but I didn't know that it might be conflicting with MathFunctions. The only reason it is in there is for haz_ct3_horse_cart.esp, a part of HAZ Classic Travel, which requires it. I believe that is not the problem since I installed haz_ct3_horse_cart.esp only recently and the problem with Oblivion XP already existed. Even if you don't have FCOM or any part of it, can you post your LO anyway? That will help my find what mod might be the problem here.

I also run into the same problem with non-kill XP not granted after X amount of playtime--restarting Oblivion always solves the problem. Using latest OBSE + OBGE, current LO:

I also have one other problem that is far more game-breaking, in that occasionally I will kill a summon (or a summoner with an active summon out) and be granted *negative* XP (a lot, shows up as an exponential) that prevents any further leveling (still shows XP gain, but XP needed will always show "-1/XXX Needed").

EDIT: AHAHAHA, UNOFFICIAL FIX!!! I love you, didn't know about that!!!

I don't have any mods loaded that offer other kinds of summons, so I don't run into that bug. I have Supreme Magicka, but that just increases the number of allowable summons based on your and the NPC's conjuration level. Once we all reach master level, we'll both have 8-10 summoned critters running around - it's gets pretty hairy.

One bug that I have run into is when you do kill a conjurer, you only get the XP for the summoned critter and not the NPC. I've been looking at fixing this, but have put it aside for the moment. Anyway it's usually so minor, I ignore it, but if I have an instance where the conjurer is a high level and has conjured a low-level critter so I only get a few points, I will determine how many points I should have been awarded and give myself those missing points. I usually figure it out by using the XP I've been getting for similiar kills - assuming the dungeon is filled with conjurers all within a few levels of each other.

I'll list the steps here because I've also found that sometimes this resets the scripts and might help with your problem so you don't have to exit and reload. Since I've not had the problem you are having, I can't say for certain, but it might be worth a try:

Open the console and type 'show obXPmain.currentXP' (without the quotes, caps not needed, used for clarity) --- this will list the exact number of current XP you have. Now if you just killed a conjurer and only got .2 XP where you should have gotten 108.56 (based on kills of other conjurers at the same level, usually in a dungeon), then you should award yourself 108.36 XP. Take the currentXP and add 108.36. Let's say your currentXP was 10678.8924. Then type 'set obXPmain.currentXP to 10787.2524'. Unless you're good at arithmetic, you'll be playing Oblivion with a calculator handy :)

As I said, not sure if this will help, but it couldn't hurt to try. I don't know anything about that unofficial patch, so I'm not sure what it's doing. It might be better to ask the other mods to give their summoned critters a level of some sort. I can list the equation Oblivion XP uses to determine how much XP you should get from a kill, but I don't know if anyone's interested in making changes to those other mods. I can also have a look at the script that awards points for miscellaneous actions, but I don't know if I'd find anything in there that would give any indication as to why it stops working after a while.

With such a long list I was hoping that the problem was not in your game so I can eliminate a lot of mods at once, but it still helps since I am using some mods that you aren't so I can take those out. I actually only found out about the unofficial fix while looking for a solution to this problem.

@ andalaybay: Actually, I've noticed that happening too; thanks for the workaround. Not sure if this is related, but occasionally when I kill a wolf the log shows that I killed a deer or rat instead. Since that is very low experience anyway, and I'm not sure if there is even a difference, it isn't much of a problem. I would appreciate it if you could take a look at the script, though it might be difficult since in my tests with no other mods active the script works fine. Either way, can you post your lord order here? Since you're not getting this problem that would help immensely.

A deer or rat?! Wow, never had anything like that. It must be a mod you're running, although what would make OBXP mistake a wolf for a rat sounds truly strange.

I was looking around the bashed patch options and I might have found the problem. Disabling the SEWorld test option fixed the health regen and might have also fixed the misc. XP. Played three game sessions, about twenty minutes each, and the script seems to be decidedly not breaking. I am curious as why this is happening though, since the bashed patch doesn't seem to change Oblivion XP.esp at all (not listed as a dependency and TES4Edit shows no conflicting records). Also, I have not entered the Shivering Isles yet if that might be relevant.

Might be a script conflict - those are harder to track down. I don't have SI, so I can't comment on what effects that will have, if any. I think I've read some stuff with people having issues with SEWorld, though, so that might be a possibility.

I might have time for a prolonged session tonight (i.e. 2 hours maybe for me :P) and I'll try disabling the SEWorld Test...although it doesn't make much sense, I've learned with Oblivion sometimes some voodoo works wonders.

No change to the behavior of losing misc. XP gain when playing--still have to restart Oblivion to re-trigger those XP gains.

Did you type in the entire command? It's

set obXPmain.currentXP to xxx

where xxx is the number you want your current experience points to be. You need both the "set" and the "to". You don't need the uppercase letters, I just typed it that way for clarity. You do have to type in the variable reference properly though, so you need the name of the script (obXPmain), a period and the name of the variable (currentXP). So it must be typed exactly like obxpmain.currentxp (with or without captial letters). Make sure you've recorded what your current experience points are first, as I said in my instructions (using the show command to list the value of the variable). You need to add the experience points you should have gained and set the current XP appropriately.

@xXAequitasXx: did you try using the above? Not sure it would help, quite frankly, but I am curious if does help anyone having the problem of losing misc. experience points. Also, could you tell me which miscellaneous actions you're not getting any XP for? I'd appreciate it if you could list one or two specific activities, like picking a lock or collecting nirnroot - whatever activities you still have activated in your ini. I've disabled collecting nirnroot, vampire bites and stealing stuff, so I won't get points for those. I do get points for the remaining activities I do have activated, however. If you could tell me which ones you don't get XP for that you should, it'll help narrow the focus a bit as I look at the script. Thanks.

I could use the set command, but that doesn't rectify the problem. If you were referring the the Bash SEWorld change, that's what I've tested and it hasn't changed anything. What I've found is that after a certain amount of time, ALL misc. XP (so, for example, XP for finding locations, XP for investing in shops, XP for unlocking locks, etc.) will fail to trigger. What I'm wondering is if it would have anything to do with OSR or SL purges, which I'm thinking (unscientifically) could affect the running ObXP script. A simple game reload will fix the problem, and I always get XP for kills, so it's not a huge issue for me, I'm just reporting my experience thus far.

I'm running OSR as well, so I don't think that's it. I'm not running SL and have found purges to be problematic, so that's a possibility. It might be a memory issue as well. Basically the script grabs a whole bunch of miscellaneous stats and loads them into an array. Have you confirmed that you don't actually get any XP, or is it just the message isn't displaying anymore? I can see the log getting screwed up, but you might be actually still getting XP. Mind you, this would require you keeping track of your current XP and see if you get any points after doing something, even though you don't get a message to that effect.

As you can see, he's messing about with clearing previous messages when the log buffer is full, so I'm wondering if that's what's screwing up and not the XP gain itself. Mostly curiosity on my part although I am looking at fixing a couple of bugs with this mod. Anyway thanks for the info, I'll keep looking at it...

Just confirmed that disabling SEWorld test does not work. Bleh. Weird that it fixed the health regen though, and it continues to work after I re-enabled the SEWorld test in bashed patch. Like I said in the first post, I tried disabling Streamline and that did not fix the problem. Did a quick test and its not just the log that is not working, unless that would also affect the XP count in F1 menu, which I used to check XP.

One more thing while I'm here: doing a take all in an owned container does not give XP at all, but there is a obvious easy workaround for that.

Hmmm. Interesting. Thanks for confirming that it's not just the log. If you're not seeing the increase in the character menu, then I would say XP are not being awarded. Now, sometimes it takes a second or two for the XP to refresh in the character menu, but it's usually quick enough if you just pause for a couple of seconds before closing the menu again.

I'm not surprised take all didn't record the theft properly, unfortunately. Considering the way the scripts work, I can see them not registering that. Stealing is one of the activities I've shut off points for because I would level too fast with it on :) I'll have to brush up on how take all works to see why it isn't triggering the XP, although this may also simply fall into the category of misc. XP you're not getting points for.

Yeah I'm starting to suspect it's a memory issue. Even perhaps a question of variable declaration - i.e. using short when a long is needed later in the game - something along those lines. Going to do more investigation... Thanks guys.

I actually only knew about the unofficial version while troubleshooting this problem, and I can say that both of the normal versions also contain this bug/conflict. As I asked in the first post, it would be helpful if you posted your load order since I am still investigating this and it seems like this is caused by a mod conflict.

I am a SM + LAME user, and was using the regular version, and had misc. XP issues. Using the unofficial fix, however, solved my problems with receiving negative XP glitches when killing summons, so it did what it was supposed to.

LAME might have summons without level as well, which is apparently what causes the bug. SM has additional summons, but doesn't introduce anything new. LAME allows you to summon animals, and that's probably where the bug pops up. I believe the other magic mods (FM and MM) also introduce new critters to summon. The patch sounds like a very simple fix, although I've not used it myself nor have I looked at its scripts. When awarding XP, Oblivion XP compares the PC's level to the critter that was killed and uses that to determine the amount of XP to award. If the critter has no level, the basic equation fails. I believe the patch puts a check in that if there is no level, it assigns a level of 1 so the basic calculation succeeds.
