Hey guys i recently brought Oblivion(Deluxe GOTY) on Steam again after losing my disc.
When i run the game and get to the Main menu, I press New game, almost instantly the Game crashes to Desktop and say Oblivion has stopped working. but gives me no Specific Error.
Just wondering if anybody had any idea how to fix this

If you have had the game installed previously did you make sure to delete the Oblivion.ini file located in My Documents>My Games>Oblivion?

1) It may indicate faulty hardware. Test out your CPU and GPU just to make sure.

2) Try defragmenting your disc.

3) Got an HP printer connected? Try unplugging it.

4) Got full shader support?

5) Check if your graphics card is supported.

6) Drivers up to date?

7) Running a lot of background applictions? Try reducing them.

8) If you got Roxio/Nero software, that may interfere with the game.

9) Got vSync on? Disable it.

10) Put Windows Media Player as your default MP3 player.


That's all I could think of from the top of my head.
It could be anything, really.
if nothing helps, you can come back and we'll try looking deeper into it...

Alright thanks for suggestions, if it helps ive had the computer for like 2 days, but yes Drivers are up to date, graphics card isn't in the Supported list but worked with Window Xp (Windows 7 now)
I may be hardware because the hardware over heats and Crashes my computer for other games .. :/
I didnt have it installed everthing on this computer is Completely new ( meaning hardrives and Software)

9) Got vSync on? Disable it. Not On

10) Put Windows Media Player as your default MP3 player. Set To Default

The game still wont Load or start a new game it will stil crash at the Loading screen for new game, So far i have

Update Video Card Drivers
Delete The Oblivion.ini File
Using with Game Booster on and off Still crashes

Put Windows Media Player as my default MP3 player

What Else you guys think i should try please tell me

Uninstall the game, and then reinstall to someplace OUTSIDE of program files folder. C:\Games\Oblivion works great.

Your Oblivion folder in My Games isn't marked Read only by any chance is it?

and this is rediculous as i borrow my friends Disc and install the game, it runs off the disk fine, but that version isnt updated but i doubt an update would do that,
probabley something with steam
