Oblivion crashes every time I exit to desktop.

Post » Thu Aug 05, 2010 8:21 pm

I am running Oblivion on Windows Vista with the latest patches and a few mods, and I thought somewhere in all the forums I had found a way to fix this crashing my computer to a black screen  , necessitating Ctrl Alt Del, then clicking on the "Oblivion has stopped working; will let you know when we find a fix" (ya right) message.

Anyone got suggestions for a solution?

Oh, I am not using any software that I would have to pay for, eg COBL, BAIN. I am using OBMM, OBSE.

Install OBSE 18 or 19 and make a Folder called OBSE inside your Oblivion Data folder. Make a folder called Plugins inside your OBSE folder. Download and install Fast Exit2 or Weacops and place the .dll file inside of the Plugins folder.
You do not need to pay for Cobl, just download it from TESNexus or Planet Elder Scrolls, BAIN is part of Wrye Bash and it is available for free also.

Thanks! I've got FastExit2 working.

It seemed in the past that whenever I tried to download COBL, I was transferred to some website that I had to subscribe to. now have COBL downloaded.

I have OBSE 19b. Are OBMM, OBSE, COBL and WryeBash all meant to work together? I had no idea, the first time I played Oblivion, that there were so many bugs to fix. I know lots of these mods add stuff people want to see in the game, but UOP and OBSE are meant to fix bugs primarily, aren't they?

The Unofficial Oblivion Patch (UOP) fixes bugs.

Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE) adds functionality to the game (for mods that use it)

They all will work together. The Unnofficial Patches fix bugs in the game and the DLC. COBL allows many different mods to use the same resources instead of having many versions of a single ingedient/potion/book.
OBMM is the easiest way for people new to Oblivion to install mods and adjust Load Order. Wrye Bash is the most useful Utility for playing a heavily modded Oblivion. I have spent fifteen minutes trying to describe how great Bash is and reediting this post.
I use the Wrye Bash launcher for OBMM, the Construction Set, enabling OBSE, running BOSS, and launching Oblivion..

Thanks for the info, guys. I really appreciate the help  . BTW, what's a DLC?

Is this a good place to discuss OBSE, Wrye Bash etc or would it be better in the mods forum?

So, you really like Wrye Bash, eh...;)

I loaded COBL. and followed the instructions to install it. I've noticed a few good changes, and some glitches. I was in Bruma and there was that big "missing mesh" star over the table at Olav's Tap and Grill, and then in Lleyawin, and the star was on the wall of my house (maybe a painting?). It was also in the floor of the Emma May (Mouth of the Panther quest). I don't think it's interfering with playability.

Also, a lot of map icons are just blank brown squares, eg. the North Sewers Prison Exit, and the new ingredients like Troll Blood don't have icons.

Okay guys I found the UESPWiki Acronym page; a lot of questions answered.

I downloaded Wrye Bash from TESNexus and tried to install it; I got the message I was missing 3 Wrye Python files/programs.
I downloaded Wrye Python and tried to install it; I got the message I was missing some other Python program, like trying to install the update to Windows 7 without having any previous Windows on my system.
I read the pictorial installation guide and the links for the pdfs are dead, and now I have to install BOSS. :shakehead:

That was yesterday -- had a sleep and trying again.
