Oblivion crashes

Post » Fri Sep 03, 2010 2:16 pm

I have recently started playing Oblivion, and I have encoutered a few crashes. Not a lot but still something I would like to avoid.

I have played a lot of Morrowind, which at first was very buggy, but with the official patch, the unofficial patch and the codepatch, it became very stable, so I thought, have the same been done for Oblivion?

well it is an unofficical patch for oblivion just search it up on tesnexus

as for mods that makes your game ''not'' to crash often corrupts your files

Unfortunately there's no code patch like there is for Morrowind. That was a godsend for Morrowind! Crashes in Oblivion are usually resolved by tweaking settings or working on your installation and load order of mods. I've gotten to the point where I run a restricted mod list because I prefer a stable game to one with lots of bells and whistles but tons of crashes...

Try http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22282 (requires OBSE). It works quite well.

Since it's my first Oblivion game, I play it unmodded so my crashes are due to vanilla Oblivion. I have only crashed 3 times in 11 hours of gametime, so the game is by no means unplayable, but the crashes have occoured at times, where I just have been walking (and all of them close to Anvil).

I prefere to play my first game unmodded, but stabalizing mods to cut down on crashes would have been welcome. I have added the official patch, and I can add the unofficial as well, but I had hoped for something like the Morrowind codepatch.

I think you should read the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1112327-relz-unofficial-oblivion-patch-320-thru-3210-supplemental-patches-hotfixes-uomp-knights-updates-relz/, http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1111761-boss-better-oblivion-sorting-software/ threads, because these are important if you want to avoid CTD's. :read:
I where you I would stick to the UOP and BOSS for a while until you decide to add some mods.

If you really want to know more about a modded Oblivion setup just go http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/ for further detailed information. :user:

Even if you want to stick to unmodded Oblivion, I really wouldn't recommend playing without the UOP and the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27710. The supplemental in particular has some tweaks that don't significantly alter gameplay but do prevent some crashes near Anvil and Kvatch. Some people seem to run into this and others don't.

If you aren't running any mods other than the UOP and UOPS, you won't need BOSS, but once you start adding mods, BOSS is a must.
