Hi, I've been playing Oblivion for awhile now and I've got just about 90 hours on it. I was doing a quest for the fighters guild when all of a sudden, Oblivion crashed. It had happened to me before once or twice and all I had to do was go to my backup file and load it up and then load the current file from there and it would load fine. This time, however, when I try to load the backup file, Oblivion crashes immediately as well. Is there any way to fix the save? If anyone can help me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Can you load an older save?

Well, I had a backup save and it didn't load that one either... I'm guessing it was because it was right outside the cave that I had entered at the time... Then, I start a new game, and it works fine, but when I try to load the saves from the new game, it doesn't work like it had used to

What are your save habits like? Do you overwrite files regularly? Rely on auto/quicksaves? (bad plan.....) Oblivion is horrid at writing files. If you overwrite your saves, you run a high risk of corruption. Best bet is to turn off all autosave options, never use quicksave, and make NEW hard saves on a regular basis. Your old save games may be toast. To date, no one has decoded the format for saves...... so, there is no loading them in some editor, and cleaning out the bad parts.
