Oblivion crashing quite often

Post » Sat Sep 12, 2015 5:57 pm

I have all the patches needed for my mod list, I am using BOSS and have a very short load order anyway. I have tried everything I can think of and my game still crashes, OBMM says that character overhaul is clashing with Knights of the Nine but I have a patch for that. They game is well, sh*ting bricks it only crashes when loading a new area (opening a door and such) I am fairly new to oblivion modding but I've got a morrowind character that I add hundreds of new mods to regularly and have never experienced this problem. Is there anything I can do to fix this? here is a screenshot of my load order, I am also using several texture and pluginless mods https://pbs.twimg.com/media/COihQLSU8AECSlH.png:large

First, I highly recommend that you add the Unofficial Oblivion Patch, which solves many problems:

The normal way to solve crashing is to narrow it down. Back up your Oblivion.ini and generate a new one. If that doesn't solve it, uninstall all mods and add them back in until you find the problem.

Oblivion also has an engine problem which causes the kinds of random crashes you're seeing. MoreHeap cam help with that:

If those don't solve it, let us know. Good luck!

To add to what Supierce said, try Oblivion Stutter Remover. It's an OBSE Plugin that really helps with stability.

Have you applied the 4GB patch? If you are running texture replaces you could be running out of memory. Agree with others on the recommendation for OSR and moreheap. If none of that works, then it's a process of elimination by deactivating all your mods and adding them back one by one to see what's causing the problem.

I almost always do that to my games but I guess I got distracted this time, I will try to see if that works. While I don't usually use the 4gb patch though I just allow it to use >2gb

I use CFF Explorer to change the flag to >2GB. Is that what you use?

Take a look at the "TESCOSI Technical Library" page on "http://wiki.theassimilationlab.com/tescosi/PCS:CTD_during_exterior-interior_transitions". See if any of those causes might apply.
