Oblivion Crisis in Skyrim...

Post » Mon Apr 04, 2011 10:28 am

The Oblivion Crisis had a huge impact on the world according to lore, but should we expect to see traces after it? 200 years is a long time, but still I have the feeling that some places it would still be possible to see that it happened. What do you think?

200 Years should be long enough for the psychic guards to clean up STOP, DAEDRIC SCUM!

I know, but this thread is about if there is any trace of the former doomsday event, a.k.a. the Oblivion Crisis

Maybe see a crumbled old Oblivion gate or something. Nothing too major.

Dude 200 years is a long time, 200 years ago napoleon got divorced and remarried.... it was also the year of the first Oktobrefest, and the French occupied Amsterdam. How many times do you hear of stuff like that today? Now think how much LESS WE WOULD CARE if your country was having a bloody civil war + you had to constantly deal with aliens coming down and killing people.

Noone cares much about the plane to Oblivion closing in the time of their great great great grandparents when there is a war going on outside and dragons lying in wait. You might find some history books about what happened in oblivion but I highly doubt anyone would realistically care.... let alone KNOW about it.

One little thing i have been wondering about:

If Akatosh doomed the leaper demon to become Dagon until he had destroyed what he had hidden from him in earlier kalpas, what happens now that Dagon is gone and Oblivion shut? And wasnt a Emperor with Alessias blood needed for them to stay that way? I always thought they just prevented the major invasion, not closing them forever.

And to go back to the Akatosh/Dagon thing: Isnt Akatosh dependant on eating everything in the world to be able to return to Aetherius? How could that now be possible when Dagon is no more and he has no way of finding all the hidden pieces of the world?

I'm not saying it should be a major thing, but an DEMONIC invasion that took place over the whole continent would leave some traces behind. And I think at least some people would care if the world almost ended 200 years ago, but was saved on the brink of destruction, so I would be supriced if it isn't any evidence about it happening in the game.

As I've mentioned in a few other threads, I would expect to come across the remnants of Oblivion Gates in the woods. It isn't a big thing, but having thought of it, the lack of them anywhere would stick out as an oversight. I don't expect them near population centers as people would likely remove such a visual blight in the following 200 years.

...or, if they were near a town, it would be some sort of memorial, in much the way the US has Civil War Battlefield sites.

Some crumbled Oblivion gates, a few books, stories and talks... Not much more has to be done. Most villages have either been rebuilt or completely abandoned. If abandoned then you propably wont find much, a few stone ruins perhaps. But this IS 200 years in the future, most of the traces are propably gone.

I suppose the Oblivion crisis has devilitate greatly if not destroyed the empire. This should have mayor impact in Skyrim.

In the Infernal City (which took place around ~4E 40), it was revealed that a small town was built around an Oblivion Gate in Cyrodiil. So while we should definitely see some old gates in the wilderness, I wouldn't be surprised to see structures built around some as well.

No, I doubt they'd go into that great of detail. I think they'll keep oblivion and all traces of it in oblivion.

I'd have to agree with this. I expect to see a few remnants in some out of the way places where they might not have been torn down.

Were the Oblivion gates limited to Cyrodiil or did they pop up in other lands at the same time?

All over Tamriel. So you could say that the lack of Oblivion Gates anywhere would not be "lore correct".

I think they were kind of a plague for the whole continent. The remnants of gates will probably be grown over with twisted plant life and will hopefully be subtle.

Yea, I think it was just underdone in Oblivion to the point where it seemed less of an apocolypse. In the game one person was able to close all the gate and a group of like what? less than 20 men? stopped the brunt of the demonic apocalypse.

If the final battle had been fought by hundreds instead of a handfull of soldiers it would have felt more like an apocalyptic event instead of an attack on a city. Problem is the hardware would have melted :P
