Not sure if something is out of order or what, but as soon as I press start, the game crashes to desktop (steam version).

Assuming the game was working at one time, before installing mods... The most likely cause of this kind of start-up crash is a missing master. One of your mods is dependent upon something which is not there.

Not sure what is causing your CTD, but you can troubleshoot by disabling the lower half of your list first and try in run it. If it runs, then you know the problem mod is in the lower half group. Disable half of those, etc, until you can pinpoint exactly which mod might be causing it.

Not necessarily the fix for your CTD issue, but only load order advice I might give is to move the Unofficial Oblivion Patch related stuff after the official DLCs (including Shivering Isles), and move Knights.esp to before the other DLCs.
