Oblivion Discussion

It's probably the Map Markers, which I made the mistake of using on my first playthrough, as well as quick travel. It seems too much like a game with them, and less like real life.

Well it IS a video game after all haha.

I have GOTY on X-Box 360, but as of yet am having technical difficulties, and haven't gotten it to work yet.

I think this game is GREAT. Have the GOTY version so voted yes to Shivering Isles. Have no rare items but that was not an option so voted 'other'.

I'd put Great above Perfect. Perfect means no room for mods, and I like making mods - a game that encourages them like Oblivion is always better than one that makes them difficult or impossible. I voted Good, as it doesn't quite rate my revised maximum. It needs improvement, but since it permits that, it's a good thing.

I bought the SI expansion, but don't really want most of the other content in GOTY enough to pay for them.

Of the listed items, the only one that's in regular use is the Skeleton key, because I find the lockpicking mini-game annoying, and the spells lag behind the locks as you level up. Fin Gleam I got once, just for completeness, but since you have to already have its attributes to be able to fetch it, I never saw the point in doing it again.

At some point, one of the characters I've played has had each of the other items, but few of them are as consistently used as the Skeleton key and Azura's Star. The Star goes into disuse for characters that don't use weapons (so no need to recharge them) so it's less of an essential item. The Key is needed to open doors etc., so any character keeps it.

Umbra, and some of the other weapons, are phases that characters go through. Most weapon-using builds end up using their own custom-enchanted items instead, but may have used pre-built ones along the way.

What would you rate the game?
Great.
I have some issues with the loose ends/ bug fixes left behind. Otherwise I still find myself playing this game many years down the road, mostly due to mods.

Did you get the Shivering Isles Expansion pack?
Yes

Do you have the Game of the Year edition?
Yes.
Needed a backup since I buffed out the scratches on my original once already. Plus I couldn't argue with a $20 price tag.

Do you have:

1. Umbra (the sword)
Had it once. Use mostly modded swords now.
2. The "Fin Gleam" (helm)
Tried it once. Didn't think it was anything special.
3. The Skeleton Key
Yes
4. Imperial Dragon Armor (beat the game)
Yes
5. GoldBrand (katana)
No. I like the more unconventional looking weapons like Dawn/ Duskfang.
6. Any other rare items
Yes. Too lazy to list them.
