Oblivion + Fallout 3 = Skyrim?

Post » Thu Sep 29, 2011 4:09 pm

*** WARNING: Very minor Fallout 3 spoilers.***

I heard from a few sources that elements from both Oblivion and Fallout 3 were going into the new ES game Skyrim. So, being I'd never played that other game, I thought I'd get my hands on a copy of Fallout 3 just to get a feel of the other half of what may be going into Skyrim. I'm up to level 8 in Fallout 3 so far, and I'm telling you... If they incorporate these two games just right Skyrim may be their best ES yet! For starters, I haven't put Fallout 3 down (much) since I got it a few days ago.

I'm not suggesting to run out and buy the game, but if you're unfamiliar with Fallout 3 and can't stop speculating about the upcoming Skyrim, you should at least rent it. Fallout 3 is one of Skyrim's parents, after all. The first thing you should know is that you'll be dealing with a post-apocalyptic American future and not the Medieval style setting of TES games.

What I've enjoyed about Fallout 3 so far... The types of enemies you run into seem like they're generated not just by what level you are. It's also based on where you explore and wander to. I still run into level 1 enemies from time to time, but I run into a few things I'm better off running away from. Some areas I travel through, I feel confidant about my survival... and feel almost completely safe. Other areas, I have just a chance of surviving if I take a full arsenal with me and stock a dozen or more medkits... and yes, I'll only have a chance at surviving. This is similar to what I hear about Skyrim, Also.

The traps in Fallout 3 are both clever and elaborate. I've unwittingly run into more than a few. Traps will be included in Skyrim, I hear.

The AI is very good... Yes, some enemies will flee if you beat them down into a near-death state. Radiant AI is in Skyrim, I hear.

I would disagree. I think Skyrim will be its own game completely. With a few aspects of Oblivion and Fallout brought over.

Even with the current Alpha build (which was from 4 months ago, so it is going to be optimized), you'd have to be blind to think they look just like Fallout 3's.

exactly like Fallout 3? no but the concept of darker, and face models are very comparable to FO3.

Skyrim is unique, takes things Oblivion did well, has the epic scope of Morrowind, and takes the great things of Fallout 3 and mashes it together in a gargantuan mortar and pestle.

Face models and animations are way better.

I think he was just talking about the concept of them being "darker".

I'm just going to come out and say it...

I really really dislike Fallout 3... Like really. :sadvaultboy:

I think it was the way the game ended on me after I spent so much time on my character... or maybe I just didn't like the whole vibe...

But I'm going to cringe every time something in Skyrim reminds me of Fallout 3. :yucky:

Hard to tell yet but as long as they take the best of both worlds, which we can already see, I'll be happy.

that

but do not expect leaps and bounds of face models between the two games they are a step forward at most.

why not add all other bethesda game titles to that as well as some inspiration from other game developers. They research works from other developers all of the time. They love what they do :).

Have you seen the disintegrate perk? It's not Fallout with swords, it's Elder Scrolls with dual wield plasma pistols.

I'm happy about the levelling system, but not so happy about other aspects of Fallout 3 making their way into TES. Namely the perks, cinematics, and children.

Fallout 3 and NV traps would be awesome! Hello plasma mine under a flipped over pan... BOOM. Of course there are no plasma mines in Skyrim.. But you know.

Magic Mines

Oblivion's traps were boring predictable and non lethal though anything is an improvement over them
