Oblivion vs. Fallout 3

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 3:42 am

For me, I say Oblivion. While I love Fallout 3, I just found out I played more in Oblivion because it seemed to have more replayability. I could be a mage one game, a thief in another game or a soldier or Knight in another. For some reason I didn't get this feeling in Fallout 3. I felt like the same character no matter what I choose, to be a freedom fighter, or thief or what not. I guess because in Oblvion you had alot of different clothes to wear you can see the difference instead of everthing being drab almost the same in Fallout 3. Even a gun just became a gun eventually so it didn't seem I played a different character.

I would recomment both games though. I love them both, so I wouldn't say one over the other, but I say get them both eventually.

I definitely think the poll choices are unnecessarily watered-down. Definitely.

Also, Fallout 3. I didn't care for Oblivion despite being a TES fan since '94... The scaling and balancing in Oblivion were sooooo horribly demotivating that I stopped playing until good overhaul mods started coming out. (Why does Bethesda like to include complex RPG mechanics in their games and then tweak everything until the character development choices you make have no effect on gameplay? :P) Even then I thought it was just 'ok' compared to Morrowind.

I like Oblivion more, as much fun as post apocalyptic settings are, I prefer the one of a fuller society. I got a lot more hours out of oblivion too.

Edit: I really don't like the VATS system from Fallout, its pretty much impossible to play without it and I just find it slows down the game too much.

I prefer Fallout 3 to Oblivion. It has more depth, a stronger art direction and better gameplay. Thats coming from an elderscrolls fan as well...i've never a played a fallout game before I played Fallout 3.

I'd recommend Fallout 3 to people.

Realizing it is a personal taste, I prefer Oblivion.

There is much more depth, there are a broader ways of developing a character and more diverse skills. FO3 is pretty much guns, Oblivion has alchemy, bows, melee and a wide variety of magic with illusion, conjuration, destruction etc. 10 races each with their own backgrounds - I know they can all eventually be pretty much the same, but if you go with the lore it can be very different, like a drunken warrior Nord, or a Dunmer Vampire, or a sneaky Khajiit.

But I like both games. I switch between them when I get bored with one. I've been playing Oblivion a lot recently and now I'm missing FO3 and decided to just start a new character. But with FO3 I have difficulty figuring out how to create a unique and interesting character, I don't have that problem with Oblivion.

Both are good games and although I am an ES fan, of the two games I preferred (to my surprise) Fallout 3. That is in spite of the less colorful setting, the post apoc wilderness, the exploration possibilities and the general atmosphere were, for me, more exciting than that of Oblivion (just).

Which game do you prefer? and why? Definitely Oblivion. Fallout 3 wasn't a bad game in any way but the main quest was very weak in my opinion and the world was grey and boring. Oblivion is special to me because it introduced me to the roleplaying genre and it's also one of my all time favorite games.

Which game would you reccomend to a new player? and why? Oblivion since that is the game i prefer myself but i wouldn't have any trouble recomending Fallout 3 either if i thought the person i recomended it to would like it. Likewise i wouldn't recomend Oblivion to a person i thought would hate the game. Peoples taste in games is different.

Oblivion, Fallout's setting limits you on role playing abilities.

I think that Fallout 3 was the better game.
