I write lots of fan fictions but lately I have been thinking of starting an Oblivion fan fiction involving my character. I just don't know if I should involve the storylines that she went through in the game, because going through the game with her I've kind of built up sort of a storyline/history for her. For instance: She was in the Dark Brotherhood because she went insane and comitted a murder then disappeared to the Shivering Isles to feel like she belonged. That isn't necessarily what I'm going to use but that's sort of what I'm talking about. I have my own plot and everything thought out but I just wasn't sure if I should involve that or not. What do you think? Would that be kind of half-assing it or would that be helpful in identifying with the character?

I think it would depend on what your fanfiction is about. If its about your assassin's rise through the DB ranks, then you may need to start at the beginning, or perhaps just before/at the murder that gets you into the guild, or at a current mission with references to the past. If the story is about your assassin infiltrating the Mages Guild ranks and eventually slaughtering them all, exactly how you entered the DB is less important than how the assassin got the mission, why the mission is important, and the exact process of getting an assassin into their ranks.

You would have to think "What is this story about?" and then "How is this relevant to the character/plot/setting/symbolism/background *as in past relating to present situation, etc.*?" Then there are changes according the genre...
