Oblivion is by far better than Skyrim

Oblivion was a fine, fine game. And I liked its guilds because I raided them for freebies. Otherwise, nah...Skyrim.

I think a vanilla Oblivion is still better than vanilla Skyrim, atleast at this point. And as an above poster said, most noticeable is the longer and more enjoyable faction quest lines. It's almost as if the devs decided to put as little content to them as possible just to get by.

Oblivion certainly has more charm to it in my opinion.

I'd say Skyrim is a slightly better vanilla game, but a modded Oblivion easily wins.

Not even close to fair. You just said a game you can't customize in anyway is inferior to a game you can customize in almost any way imaginable. I will say I miss Spellmaking and Open Lock spells. Being a magic using thief or assassin is really limited if you can't use magic to get into places.

I respectfully disagree. The only thing I can't comment on yet is/are the guilds. The Mage College has left a sour taste in my mouth, but I'm postponing judgement until I finish my favorite questline from Oblivion, the DB.

that's an unfair comparison, and you know it

I think it's a fair assessment.

In three years time when Skyrim has an abundance of mods available, who knows... maybe my opinion will change and i'll consider Skyrim a better game. Although I do think Oblivion's flaws (such as level-scaling and the slightly bland gameworld) are more easily fixable than Skyrim's flaws (such as the poor character development system and short questlines).

After over 100 hrs into Skyrim, my view is that Skyrim is an updated version of OB, but it has a different flavor to it. The graphics are obviously superior, the dialog is better and, so far, like the quests better. The guilds are striking me as inferior to OB. I felt like I'd really accomplished something when I was accepted into the mages guild in OB.

Well, Oblivion with OOO might be up to Skyrim and Nehrim certainly is...in fact I consider Skyrim to be Nehrim2. But vanilla Oblivion? No way, not ever.

Honestly, I think I actually enjoyed Nehrim more than Skyrim. Obviously Skyrim is more polished and does a number of things better... but when I look at the meat of the game - character development, quests, and dungeons - I prefer Nehrim for all three.

Based on enjoyment, i'd probably say: heavily modded Oblivion > Nehrim > Skyrim > unmodded Oblivion.

I'll agree that I enjoyed the stat system, HATED the leveling, and loved that you could name what kind of class your character was going for. I wish you could do that in Skyrim, why can't you? Just a simple tag like "Death Knight" or "Runemaster" or "Nightblade"

Can't necessarily agree Oblivion was better - but I remember that feature fondly as well.

I had to laugh. No, Oblivion is nowhere near as good as Skyrim. Skyrim is, in my view, perfect. I play on Ps3, and I have a whole load of lag, but the game beats Oblivion in combat, magic (Feels more real), dialog (I want a real feeling game, not a comedy game), difficulty, creatures, realism and landscape. Yes, Oblivion had longer guilds, but they where very, very boring. At least Skyrims guilds are FUN. Cities look a whole load better, and weapons and armor look more epic. I would like to know in what way is Oblivion better?

Skyrim has dragons. Oblivion doesn't. Therefore Skyrim is better.

Both games have their positive aspects.... I dont think either one is far and away beter than the other....

I remember having these conversations years ago about Morrowind v.s. Oblivion.

I do miss the sense of wide-open-wonder I used to get when first starting an oblivion playthru.... Skyrim seems kinda chlostraphobic to me

I disagree. You're comparing what thousands of modders have had several years to do, working to improve single aspects of the game at a time. That's unfair to Skyrim, as right now it stands only on what Bethesda could do in the same time frame with a much larger list of things to do.
Give Skyrim a few years, and the modding community will blow Oblivion and Morrowind combined out of the water

And the last part is merely a lack of content. That will change, especially once guys like the Lost spires team hit the scene, along with folks like Xilver (Midas Magic FTW!!!).

Feel free to disagree with me, as that's your right(which I will try to respect). However, at least wait for a while to compare mods between games

the devs have access to those mods as well to add what they want to the game

modders basically are Bethesda's unpaid R&D devision

I wouldn't say far better, but Oblivion is better in the following ways:

1. Spellmaking.
2. Utility spells like unlock, cure disease/poison
3. By far the most noticeable are the longer and more enjoyable faction quest lines.

Aside from that, Skyrim is much better; that's my opinion though. I love both games and still play Oblivion.

Perfect comparison here... #2 doesn't bother me...but perhaps it does for others so it should be noted

I think Oblivion was probably too ambitiious for Bethesda, but of course that was part of it's charm at it's release. Skyrim is pretty much Oblivion refined.

The hell? One wanna compare Vanilla Skyrim with MODDED Oblivion? That is very unfair comparison in the fair base that the amount of time to make modded Oblivion for 5 years after the game is release. Wait until Skyrim get 5 years down the road with the modding community and then we can compare both game via Modded.

That said, Vanilla Oblivion is NOTHING compare to Skyrim Vanilla.

Such as? What has been taken directly from mods?
And I'm referring to exact copy-pasting of mods into the game, not taking ideas from them(as Bethesda still has to create the stuff themselves)

And yes, they are. That's one of the things that makes Bethesda awesome: If we want something in the game, they'll let us add it ourselves the way we want.

We are all entitled to our opinions.

This post stopped me from flaming :D

I disagree, i feel that skyrim is better in almost all aspects, except the questlines.
Skyrim's guild questlines were horrible. for the companions and the college of winterhold, at least. Thieves guild and DB questline seem quite interesting :)

It isn't so much the added content from mods that puts Oblivion ahead - it's the fixing of flaws. A lot of these flaws (in both Oblivion and Skyrim) aren't there because Bethesda ran out of time - they're just poor design choices... like level-scaling or the removal of attributes.

Give Skyrim a few years, and the modding community will blow Oblivion and Morrowind combined out of the water.

I doubt that somehow. With a lot of mods, it's capable of matching a modded Oblivion, but it would need a complete overhaul to the point where it's barely even the same game to even come close to Morrowind.

Feel free to disagree with me, as that's your right(which I will try to respect). However, at least wait for a while to compare mods between games

Going back to my previous posts, I didn't just compare unmodded Skyrim to modded Oblivion. I compared both games unmodded as well... and stated that while I prefer Oblivion and feel it has more charm, Skyrim is the better vanilla game. I also went on to acknowledge that my opinion on how both games compare is likely to change in a few years time when Skyrim has a sufficient number of mods.

I'd feel more compelled to post something constructive, but the OP just makes a statement about how he/she feels and clearly says he/she can't say why. Without an explanation, of where his/her opinion stems from, this thread just reeks of Troll.
