Oblivion is by far better than Skyrim

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 8:43 am

The only thing Oblivion did better was spell making, people had horses, and the quest lines were longer.

Mages guild in Oblivion was BAD.

Fighters guild..I don't even remember the point of that one.

Thieves guild was good.

DB was wonderful.

The main quest was god awful.

For exploration I would put Morrowind as number 1.
Morrowind has the largest world between morrowind/oblivion/skyrim of course Daggerfall was even bigger, but I don't choose it cause it had randomly generated content and not a true world design.
So for vast world to explore and roam around it wins hands down. Those that never played the previous just check it on wikipedia also they compare world sizes.

For Quests and rich stories and characters / drama / emotion, I choose Oblivion. Oblivion is so far to me had a more epic story and the side quests themselves felt epic at times. And the random conversations in town ranged from funny to creepy.

for graphics, animation, combat I give it to Skyrim (Minus the user interface!) If Skyrim would have been designed for the PC first and ported to consoles it would have been a much more epic game. But with the PC being a console port, the keymaps, the user interface and such were just cumbersome and clunky and didn't make sense.

hopefully in the future we will get an Elder Scrolls game that combines the HUGE world size of Morrowind, with the characters stories, drama, random interactions, quests, emotions and deep rich story of Oblivion with the better graphics and smooth character animations and better combat system like Skyrim.

That would be, from my perspective, the perfect Elder Scrolls game.

There is just something about Oblivion that makes it a better game. I don't know what it is, but you know, it just is a better game than Skyrim. I'm not trolling, i really think this! The dialogue is better on Oblivion (more funny), the combat felt more solid (even thoug Skyrim's is a tad better). Oblivions quests were better than Skyrims, the giulds were better. Overall, i feel that Oblivion was better, more solid overall, a much better product, less bugs/glitches aswell

solid...errr...oblivion?
skyrim ? glitches?

I feel like every elderscrolls game ushered in a new generation of gaming. Oblivion did it with next gen graphics, fully voiced dialogue and better combat.

While Skyrim was an improvement in the graphical department, it didn't accomplish much in the story telling department and that's one of the most important things for me.

There are plenty of mods that reshape how Oblivion works but( aside from total conversions,) none of them reshape what Oblivion is about. And the same will be said for Skyrim.

So while its clear that Skyrim is a better looking, much more polished product (and with mods that attribute will keep going up), the fact that it doesn't really top Oblivion's storytelling is what makes me feel like its inferior.

Compared to Skyrim, Oblivion is a childish game; I guess that's why you prefer it.

Honestly, I miss some of the characters from Oblivion. I haven't met any really memorable characters in Skyrim yet... I mean, most seem "empty" in both games but at least Oblivion has some goofballs to offset it a little. Only one I've met in Skyrim is that dumb [censored] Cicero, and he just annoys me.

Vvardenfell was smaller than Cyrodill.

Lol, had to fix that, sorry. :D Yes, Vvardenfell was smaller, but because of the speed of the character AND the draw distance in the original (read: without graphics extender etc.) Morrowind it seemed much bigger.

Don't get me wrong, it was (and still is) a HUGE game for its time.

I'm guessing you first ES game was Oblivion. Usually our first tends to be our favorite in many cases.

We all have our own opinions though.

The only thing I think vanilla oblivion did better are the guilds questlines. On every other department Skyrim is either better or on the same level.
This should be made into a poll.

Sorry OP, but IMO Oblivion was nothing but day glo colored linear overly level scaled garbage. I however enjoyed the more realistic Archery. Even the map was linear. No paths to get lost and explore. One giant path around IC and a path each leading to the towns. The dungeons were split up into different forms of enemies. Mythical/Bandits/Conjurers/Necromancers Etc. When I go into a dungeon in Skyrim I find more then one type of enemy usually. The armor looked childish and the weapons acted like you were playing with plastic toys. I could go on, but to each his/her own.

The archery in skyrim is more realistic. I own a longbow, I shoot said longbow often, I shun fancy compound bows. Skyrim archery is actually realistic

While I miss the magic system, stats, and the missing skills. I do actually like Skyrim much better then oblivion. This is from someone who is a huge daggerfall and morrowind fan.

I think they could add back in pretty much everything in the game keeping the combat, crafting, companions ect and make a really great game. At the very least the magic system needs huge improvements.

Was Oblivion your first TES game? If so, that's why.

You're first is always special.

But anyways, no. It IS NOT better. Opinions are cool but that's a fact.
