If I go up really close to it I can hear a faint hellish swirling sound coming out of it.

Does no-one else know what this is for?

Who are the NPCs that reference it? I've heard nothing of the sort.

Hey, I found it!

For those having trouble, walk north of Solitude and take a right at Gullible street then take a left at Full Of [censored] Boulevard.

A Khajit and a Nord in the Solitude Inn. If its a random spawn I'd expect different NPC's in different towns or hamlets to reference it maybe?

They only say stuff like. "An Oblivion Gate? Don't talk rubbish." and "It's Sheagoraths doing, it's been 200 years."

Stuff like that, generic lines, no quest lines or anything.

My gate is near the magic university. Just outside. I bumped into it fighting a dragon in the blizzard. Not heard anyone from the town reference it yet though so I call troll on that.

It says 'You shall not pass.' if you go near it. Seems smaller than the ones in Oblivion though. I wonder if it is the same as it doesn't say Oblivion Gate on the map just has the symbol for one on there.

And yeah, I reckon its a random spawn.

I no-clipped it and nothing. Nadda!

Its just a decoration I think to add a crossover or for future DLC but I doubt that as they would have made some announcment about it.

The noise it makes is pretty creepy but I guess they are trying to keep a flavour of Oblivion in the game. Wonder if there are any references to Morrow etc in Skyrim too?

Don't bother looking for it though, it does nothing and is pretty boring.

Another thing for me to moan about. Don't bother putting cool stuff like this in if it does nothing Beth!! Greee :flamethrower:

Why would they announce a DLC in the first month?

You can say "nada" or "nadie" or "coisa alguma". It's cool anyway and no one will understand. XD

And yes, there are references of morrowind and oblivion in this game. This is incredible. I'm loving it.
And It's always possible to bethesda do something about that oblivion gate.. but is also possible to 'em doing nothing.

As I could say:

"Saberemo em breve".
Wich means "We'll know it soon enough".

Google translate if you have any doubt.

It's an enjoyable reference to Oblivion for those who aren't whiny little brats. Seriously, Bethesda adds something to the game that's fun to look at and holds an aura of mystery and all you can do is complain about it? Who's to say there isn't a quest attached to it? Have you completed every quest? Maybe get all 15 daedric artifacts and then go back fo it?

Oh...maybe because its a remnant of the gates?
The gates opened everywhere, it makes sense for there to be ruins.

What would be cool would be to reference something from a game that hasn't been made yet. Like if this Oblivion Gate had appeared in Morrowind with no explanation. Then when you get Oblivion it all becomes clear.

Just a thought.

They are random spawns like some of the ones in Oblivion. I expect each player will have one spawn outside a town or hamlet or maybe in the middle of no-where or up a mountain or something.
