Oblivion Gate in Skyrim...

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 1:25 pm

Can anyone tell me how to open the Oblivion gate on the northside of Solitude?

Or is it just there for decoration?

IDK

I wasn't there, but Oblivion gates do literally not exist. It must be either something else or just decoration, like you said.

Ah, that might explain it. There are no scamps or anything lurking about and when I walk towards it I only get the 'Shall not pass' message.

Thanks for clearing it up.

Have you tried killing the last Dragonborn, yet? That might work.

The message 'Shall not pass' has been hard coded into the game tells me it could be a future expansion or doorway to DLC content.

I play on 360, can't do a screenshot. Can someone else provide one please?

Yeah, the hardcoded message might point to DLC.

I just thought it was a nice touch given how the Solitude folk are on about the Oblivion gate in the local Tavern.

All I know its its there and does nothing. I expect its just a crossover touch to bring continuity between games.

I thought it was cool.

I'm standing in front of it right now.

Go to Solitude, walk round the perimeter of the town until you are north. Look on your map you will see a hill/mountain. I have an Oblivion gate marker just to the northeast of the top of that hill/mountain. To find it I came out of the cave with the Spriggans in that is to the East of that mountain.

I couldn't clear the cave as they were whupping me good so I legged it and ran into the gate. There are no NPC's but the Solitude tavern has two NPC's who make referrence.

I'll be going back to Solitude after this quest so I'll post what they say. Or you could just go and hear it yourself.

That would be cool. Spawn more Oblivion Gates. :D And also bring more Daedra and Dremora variety.

I thought it was common knowledge hence why I asked. There at least two other topics talking about it but no-one says how to enter?

I doubt it, there is no mention of anything other than the Daedra we already know about in the USEP Wiki. It's more likely DLC. Go take a look for yourself.

I've just gone all over Solitude. In town and outside of it... and all over the mountain north. I used TCL to make it quicker, and... I'm just not seeing any Oblivion gate. I think this guy is trollin.

There should be a wizard in white robes somewhere near the gate. You need to kill him if you want to pass.

I just went there with my Sneak Thief character save and its not there. So its either a random spawn or it appears at a certain level.

More likely a random spawn.

It better not just be for decoration. Grrrr
