I have never taken the time to find all of the oblivion gates in the world. i was wondering if anyone has dound them all and if so how many are there? And , if i destroy all of the gates will chancelor Ocato send help for the Bruma Defense?????

In theory there are an infinite number. That's the point of the main quest.

In reality a maximum of 60 will open. But that's just an arbitrary game limitation. It's lore breaking to stop the gates that way.

Even so, High Chancellor Ocato has the legions deployed outside Cyrodiil, and you can't close any gates outside Cyrodiil. So no he never sends allies.

That, and he seems more worried about averting a potential "political crisis" than stopping the actual Oblivion Crisis.

I never get involved in lore too much, so I may have missed this. There were Gates outside Cyrodiil?? :confused:

I did once, just to do it. Took forever, mainly running all around the swamps of Blackwood and the forest of the West Weald. Plus, if you want your stats page to show closing all 60 (which I did), it has to be done a certain way.



Yes, I forget when, but something's said about the Telvanni fighting the gates too.

In addition to Ocato's comments, you also hear rumors about gates outside Morrowind. I'd like to quote, but since this is in the General Forum, I probably shouldn't.
