Oblivion GOTY - Anthology Edition - Help needed please!

Post » Sun Mar 27, 2016 7:18 am

I know that this game is rather old and dated, but I believe it still has a faithful following.

I have already played Oblivion GOTY. The first playthrough (on PS3) was interrupted by the Abomb Glitch so I bought the PC version, also GOTY. This was also interrupted by the same problem but because it is possible to make changes to the programming, it worked out that I could eradicate the glitch using OAF. I managed this with several guys holding my hand as it were, as I am not an expert by any means.

Unfortunately, having come to the end of that story I found out that I could no longer access the DLC that was available when the game was first launched. I cast around for information and found out that if I had the Steam Edition the DLC would be automatically forthcoming. So I managed to get hold of the Anthology Edition which also contains all of the other prequels and Skyrim to boot.

I contacted support. It was some time ago, December 2014 in fact. They came back with a solution whereby I would not have to commit to playing the whole thing again. The answer was to move my latest game saves to a safe location, uninstall my version of Oblivion and then install the new Anthology version. I was then to play through the initial part of the game to where a game save is made and then move my old game saves into that directory. I could then play on with the new version having entered my 15 character code to register it with Steam.

The reason why I delayed doing anything at the time was because I had unforeseen health issues. I'm still having them - the latest is a heart attack for which I am waiting on a bypass operation, so I haven't been able to give the problem my full attention.

I decided to try to pick up where I left off but my problem is I don't really know what I'm doing!

I've tried to install the discs that came with the Anthology Edition (AE) but nothing seems to happen. I shut them in the drive, it whizzes for a while and then goes silent.

Also I'm not sure about what I do with this code. There's no instructions with the AE to tell you what to do. I'm not even sure if I have to install the discs. I have thought that perhaps the code might give me access to the download game - I just do not know!

Also, I kept the email responses from Bethesda. I tried to "reply" to them to ask for more help, but all I'm getting is a robotic acknowledgement of receipt telling me to go to the website and raise a ticket with support again. I tried this but because it is asking for "other information", which I haven't got, it refuses to send - so I'm going around, frustratingly, in ever decreasing circles.

Can anyone point me in the right direction - I would really like to sort this out. I need a couple of "wins" in my life at the moment as you can probably understand.

First, you need to sign up for a Steam account if you don't already have one: https://store.steampowered.com//login/?redir=login%2F%3Fredir%3D0&redir_ssl=1

Next, you need to download Steam (if you haven't done so yet) and login to the Steam program under Settings/Preferences (maybe account info, it's under the menu entries somewhere once you're in the Steam program): http://store.steampowered.com/about/

Finally, you need to add the game code to your account from within the Steam program. To do this, Steam has a step-by-step article that says it better than I can: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5414-TFBN-1352:)

Once done, you can then install Oblivion via the download in Steam if you can't get the disc working. Hope that helps. :)
