Oblivion Housing

What do you think of Oblivion's housing?

I chose Great.
In my opinion, I thought the concept of housing in Oblivion was done almost perfectly! Since to me, they put the right furniture in the best spot on each house.
Only thing I would wish to add is that they could put extras in the house such as active items to occupy. Maybe a unique Elder Scrolls era boardgame or maybe have a training room in the houses that feature perfect training for melee, spells, and range.

Decent, I would much rather remove the stupid "Deeds" to pre-placed objects, and let the players design the furniture layout.
But besides that, they are good.

Fix your post to kill the stupid abuse of fonts and colours.

The 'deeds' and preplaced furniture were necessary due to the disasterpiece that was the HAVOK physics engine.
Can you imagine how hard it would be to place furniture with the way that the HAVOK engine makes simple tasks; such as placing a cuirass on a shelf; a nightmarish exercise in frustration and futility?

My own vote was for decent, as there is no houses in the IC proper, and until you get the Bruma house, there is severely limited storage capabilities in all the lower cost ones (Bravil, Leyawiin, IC waterfront).
Also, regarding houses, why the hell can I NOT lock the door of my house to keep the unwanted rabble from the towns out of my houses?

Decent. Really, it's ALRIGHT but could be better. I think if the housing was like Fable II I would enjoy it more. Like being able to buy any house you want, but the renting to other people rather than only being able to buy a certain one within a city. There are some good house in Cyrodiil. Too bad you only get the choice to buy the worst in each city...

I choose Great but the only changes I would make is to add more quests I hated that you only had two quests with your houses the one in Anvil and the short one in Skingrad.

Decent.
You should of been able to buy more than one house in each city, and if some houses were left un-attended for long (or you say you don't want them) they could of been occupied by ddifferent people.
Like said before, furniture should of have been movable, and it would be nice if you could get more/better decorations, so it would feel more homely.

Decent

I never really found a use for them, it was just somewhere to sleep and store stuff. The could have been made more interesting

Home laboratories would have been nice. Surely you'd work better at a properly set up alchemy desk at home than you would in the middle of a snowstorm on a mountain, so maybe a boost to your alchemy skill whilst at home (I know this has already been mod added)

Also the ability to train your combat skills at home would've been good. There are more possibilities that don't come to mind just now

Vanilla = decent, not really much to do besides store stuff.

With mods = awesome :)

Somewhere between "Bad" and "Decent", so I voted decent. Due to Havok, it's nearly impossible to organize any decorations of your own making in your house, houses are limited in style and size, too few storage units in most, unchangeable in-game by the player, etc. In Morrowind I would spend hours and hours decorating my house, but in Oblivion I just dump stuff in chests and leave. I don't like it. It spoils the concept of "houses" for me to not be able to efficiently decorate!

Thank GOD for mods.

I voted decent.
One of the reasons for that is what Troyatz said above, the Havok engine makes decorating an absolute pain.

Also, I'd like it if there were more houses. For example, I might want to live in the poorer area of Chorrol, rather than Arborwatch. Or I'd like to live in a house in the wilderness.

Decent; I would change a lot but it is still good
Yes. Your poll choice says it perfectly.

My character owns a house in her home town of Bravil, but tends to favor unconventional quarters. She lived in the Chironasium while attending the University. Nowadays, she spends most of her time on the road, thankful for her portable campsite and the saddlebags on her mare.

I voted Decent.

The pre-packaged upgrades stops it becoming a decorating game instead of an adventure game, but there could have been some alternatives in that setup. E.g. some of the room contents could have come in mage, fighter, or thief versions. Do you want a lab, a workout room, or more storage in that area? It's not even there in the choices between houses, as they all cater for the same generic character, varying only in price/quality.

Decent. I want to be able to light up the dark corners of my house, without the paintbrush and "drop a lit torch" glitches. Arranging things is a nightmare. I agree with the above poster; I want to arrange my furniture, maybe there are several layout templates to choose from. On console, I want to arrange all my favorite books on a bookshelf, not stacked in a pile haphazardly on a shelf.... and if I accidentally brush against it, book explosion! which takes out some of my other displays. If the owner of a "bed" is dead, I should be able to sleep there..

Voted 'decent'.

As mentioned, decorating is an absolute nightmare, and when you finally get it all in place it all explodes next time you enter the room. WTF is up with that?? The door slams shut a couple of times and everything falls off the shelfs. Really effin annoying. Now I have hour glasses, crystal balls, books, scales and a lot of another stuff scattered all over the room cause it's such a biatch to put it back in place and it would just fall down again.

And then once you have opened a drawer or cupboard you can't close it again. It just stays open, which is also really annoying to look at. They should open when you activate them and close when you're done.

Incidentally, does anyone know if it's safe to move into the Marie Elena? I went down to take a look at it and I got jumped by the pirates and now they're all dead. I hope they weren't important to any quests? But I've been thinking about moving in since it's pretty sweet looking.

It is safe, with caveats. You should find about 10 open top grain sacks below decks (all safe storage). The missing captain of the ship does not appear in the game until his quest is activated. It is quite possible to live on the ship and still do the quest when/if you feel like it. To avoid spoilers, let me provide a link that will help clarify:

Housing isn't bad, but I would like a way to organize books, even if that just means making a bookshelf an internal container (hmm, I wonder if that can be done on the PC).

Dammit, I was hoping all the chests would be safe storage. That makes it pretty worthless then since I'm not going to bounce around to each bag to find my stuff.

I've a fair idea that this was a deliberate by the devs to reduce the likelyhood of players simply using the ME crew as combat grind fodder and getting a useful free home on the IC waterfront, instead of players wasting time dungeon diving to build a decent kitty for shelling out on the, far less useful for storage, Waterfront Shack.

I think they're great, although a little more choices would have been welcome. Like the housing system in Fable III.

I went for decent. Having a house available in all cities is nice. However, I do not like many of the selections. I would have preferred for there to be at least two houses in every city you can buy. A cheap dive, and a nice place. Plus an ordinary middle-class one on top of those in the Imperial City. (It is supposed to be the political and economic hub of Tamriel, and you can only find one crappy shack for sale there?).

I said decent.

My main complaint . . . should have a way to buy or otherwise obtain ownership of any unoccupied house (or cleared-out dungeon for that matter).

Also, it would be cool if the player could ride it's horse in town, then store it outside their house maybe?

Hmmm. The creaters could set up an option to where it take you to a special floor plan of the house and you could simply place furniture around. Like Zoo Tycoon or somthing. (:
Also, I would love to be able to live in caves you've cleared out if you choose, that is, if it's not part of a quest.
Like, I said in an earlier post, decent.

Yup! But I can only dream it will be in the next TES since I'm a Playstation 3 user.
