There are still people who play TES III, and who mod it. I imagine when TES V is released a lot of modders who gravitate more in that direction but I don't imagine TES IV will be left in the dust.

I don't leave my favorite game in the dust, no matter how good any new game is. The new game may even take Oblivion's place as my favorite, but I will never leave Oblivion in the dust.

When TES V is released, I will continue to play TES IV for at least a year. I won't go near a new game - ever. I will allow others to get it reviewed, wiki'd, patched, unglitched, modded, and generally thoroughly sorted out before I consider it.

Exactly. And for the OP's info, I still play Arena and Daggerfall. Go check the forums and you'll see people still play them.

I still do, occasionally, too. Skyrim will be another Elder Scrolls game to add to my cycle of Elder Scrolls gaming. I switch between the released four.

I don't think folks will have to worry about it. Some who play Skyrim will prefer Oblivion still just as those who like MW more than Oblivion are passionate about it. Some will move on, some will play it and return to MW or Oblivion and some will play Skyrim until the next game comes out. I have played Daggarfall, Morrowind and Oblivion all about two years each with a few breaks to play something else or actually do something else. I've played a bit of Oblivion not long ago. It had been a while and it was refreshing with renewed eyes. I loved it. I loved them all. They have made my aches and pains and bad back and retirement take a back seat. They are my entertainment.

Collect dust? Not really. Momentarily and gently put aside? Yes, indeed.

But I'll always return to Oblivion. It was my first Elder Scrolls game and therefore it has a special meaning to me.

I'll still play MW, OB and Skyrim when skyrim comes out. OB I will probably play the least though - I've completed much more of OB then MW, and I find MW has more replay value. I'll keep playing OB though.

Depending on how good Skyrim is I might never touch Oblivion again but if its like the seperation that New Vegas had on Fallout 3 then I might pop it in when I get bored with Skyrim.

Look at some of the other threads on the forum. You'll see some heated debates about which TES game is better. Morrowind vs. Oblivion, Arena vs. Daggerfall, Daggerfall, vs. Morrowind. People still play the old TES games, they always will. Just like people still play the old Fallout games.

Personally, I played Oblivion shortly after I heard the rumor through Eurogamer about TES V...I started a new game but only played it for maybe an hour or so. Same goes for Morrowind, I played that for a few days just a few weeks before. It's not that I'm bored of those games or have moved on. It's more that I've played 100s of hours on both. On Oblivion I did maybe 8-10 playthroughs. Morrowind I did 2-3 playthroughs and each playthrough has close to 100 hours attached to it.

I've been more into Fallout the past few years, but I just might make a return back to TES soon. No matter how many hours I play it, if I take a break from it I'll always come back and spend at least another 50 hours on it. So my Oblivion won't be left in the dust for all eternity....it will be shiny someday again. :)

Actually all this talking about it makes me wanna play :bolt:

I think this is true. Now, I'm sure some players will stop playing Oblivion after Skyrim is released, but just as there are those who still continue to play Morrowind, I'm sure some will still cling to Oblivion when Skyrim is released.

As to what I'll do? I don't know, most likely, if I'm still playing Oblivion when Skyrim is released, I'll stop playing it at least for a time, since my attention will be taken by Skyrim, no doubt, but I wouldn't expect to permanently abandon the game, but rather just to leave it for a time, only to come back again later.

I can tell you I will certainly not be leaving Oblivion behind. :P
I have too many fond memories of it, and there is too much unlocked potential still within it, for me, to leave it behind simply because there's a new game out. I will play Skyrim (although I may return once or twice to Oblivion fairly soon after starting Skyrim if I get all nostalgic - sad but likely), but I will still return to Oblivion at times. And after all, I'd have to see how my upgraded computer for Skyrim would now handle Oblivion. ;)

When TES V is released, I will continue to play TES IV for at least a year. I won't go near a new game - ever. I will allow others to get it reviewed, wiki'd, patched, unglitched, modded, and generally thoroughly sorted out before I consider it.

I admire that discipline..pity I don't share it. :P

I'll probably still play Oblivion, honestly as far as video games go I think it is a total gem. I pick up most games on a Friday and come Saturday morning I've played through the entire thing. Maybe it's because I been playing video games for just around 20 years they're just getting shorter and easier along with multiplayer options that are plagued with latency issues and lack of players. The Elder Scrolls has been one of the few things keeping me interested in gaming.
I'm really excited with Skyrim since Bethesda announced they are pretty much done with it to me that seems like they're just working out any bugs or finishing touches, if they were taking off suggestions from the game from the skyrim forum it'd turn out as a very odd Fable clone. Never liked that game so much beat the first one (wasn't a half bad game) but the second one had to be one of the absolute worse games I've ever played terribly clunky controls, same button to block as attack and do counters just awful. I won't even get started about the rest of it.

Oblivion collect dust? I will keep it in regular use to avoid dust collection, it could be detrimental to my hayfever and other allergies. Besides, someone has to keep an eye out for rogue Daedra :obliviongate:

Considering the fact that the release of Oblivion did virtually nothing to slow the modding community for Morrowind, you fears are unfounded.

The Elder Scrolls games are so different from one another, a new game can't make his predecessors be forgotten.

I'll likely continue playing Oblivion occasionally . Just as many people who started with Morrowind continue the play that (me to, though I started with Oblivion).

And I'll guess that there will be a bunch of people that will hate Skyrim because it's not an expansion of Oblivion. Perhaps nitpick all the things that are in Oblivion and missing from Skyrim while ignoring the improvements. And they will likely go back to Oblivion and occasionally bash Skyrim. Just a guess.

No it will not be gathering dust, Morrowind is still alive and kicking 8 years later, and most likely will still be going after Skyrim is released, and so will Oblivion.

Return to IV - Oblivion
