[WIP] Oblivion Makeover

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:49 pm

That's actually accurate to the few large caves I've been in. The rocks are often very smooth, shiny even though they're dry.

And man, it really is stunning. I've never really been a svcker for eye candy, but that's some tasty candy!

I've actually never been in a real cave now that I think about it, so I'll take your word for it. I visited a large mine and some small seacaves by boat, but no large natural caves. Regardless, these cavetextures are a must-have anyway. :)

Stupid posts like this have caused AmpolX to become frustrated with this community before. How about we just appreciate that he's back to creating the next big thing after QTP3 and stop posting these useless comments? This is what AmpolX's game looks like, and you can easily ignore it and instead focus on the high quality of the textures you see in those screenshots.

My goodness. He said 'please' after all.

In any case, I agree with him. I would like to see what it looks like without that filter. Sure, you can get a decent picture of how it will look.. but it isn't the same. If AmpolX doesn't want to do it without, that is his choice. I think it would be silly of him to get frustrated or offended by it.

Please post screenshots without the vaseline filter.

Seconded, thanks Fearabbit.

I don't know why some peeps don't get it, but:

8. The only criticism that is allowed here is constructive criticism and that is welcome.

Constructive criticism criticizes a proposed idea. Criticism that is directed against one person, be it a modder, another member, an individual developer, a certain moderator or a group effort are all forbidden.
This means that when you voice your concerns, please do so in a way that offers a vehicle for improvement. If you see something going wrong, feel free to say so, but also say something about how to set it right.

It also means that posts that run down other members or factions among the membership who may not agree with you are still out under the rules against flaming and flamebaiting.

Personally, I'm still trying to get an approximation of AmpolX's ENB and OBGEv2 settings.

So...what can people tell me about the use of Bump/Environment bump maps in oblivion via nifskope?

What exactly do you want to know? The http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/DDS_Files does a pretty good job describing Oblivion's texture use. Oblivion utilizes normal maps and Textures with Parallax displacement mapping (only for static objects). The Parallax displacement must be activated in the Nif file. It kinda hardware intensive though. My hopes of being able to run Oblivion with these new texture are circling the drain :P .

Those textures look amazing. May need a downscaled version similar to QTP3 Redimized so people with 256-512mb VRAM can enjoy your work also.

I was so frustrated to not be around when your beautiful work was available, and there you return. I'm a very happy end user right now, thank you. :celebration:

A slight question; where in nifskope can I determine the use of Parallax Displacement Mapping?

The textures look absolutely phenomenal the cave especially, it feels like a real cave, proper ambient lighting and it'll be a place to enjoy. If you're working on Ayleid ruins (new/clean or classic broken fane look) I'd love to see them and test them out. From what I see so far, this is how games should look.

To enable Parallax displacement the texture the Apply Mode in the NiTexturingProperty must be set to APPLY_HILIGHT2. Displacement maps are stored as Greyscaled bump maps in the Defuse map's alpha channel.

Wow. I want it. I'm going to have to give it a try when it comes out and see how it affects my performance, just in the slim chance that I can run it, because they look amazing.

If I bothered to use the smiley button when I posted, that smiley is what I would use after seeing the images in this thread.

Keep up the top quality work AmpolX!

That's just hot. I assume that the grass hasn't been worked on because it looks like there's a bit of tiling going on.

Also, any more eyecandy?

Did you have to!??! Now I have to put in some overtime at work so I can afford the latest graphics card & 30" monitor to do this justice. To run on anything less would be a crime!
