Oblivion RP no map markers...HAd the best oblivion session

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 5:55 am

Have anybody tried doing an Oblivion RP without using your character marker and only using map markers(or even without using map markers) ... I prolly had the best oblivion session in a few years and that's saying a lot.. My little lvl3 mage got chased into the woods by bandits and mages. Considering i had the OOO mod and i was playing DED...I knew it would turn ugly soon...

It was one hell of a challenge ,getting lost in the forest trying to avoid the trolls, deadra, 10-12 bandits..got damn close a couple of times... Got chased in the forest by bandits, who then got attacked by the deadra with both following me , luckily i met a Patrols on the roads , then it was a nice 3 way battle b/w guards, deadra and bandits.. Guards won in the end , while i decided to be a puss and hide in a corner...Later followed that guard as close as i could into the town... Man i was never happier to be safe and sound inside city walls...

In my modded games I always played with a character marker. But I almost never used map markers. I can't stand map markers, personally. But I do occasionally like to know where my character is (it's the only value of an in-game map, to me) so I use the character marker.

My current game is almost entirely vanilla so I have both at the moment. But I use the map as seldom as possible. For me, the fewer times I see the in-game map the larger the game world feels.

How do you remove quests markers in Oblivion?

I prefer turning off compass, I leave map markers and PC's marker on but I rarely look at the map, usually only to plan the route. I don't have anything against map markers because I imagine that my characters mark discovered places on their map so they make sense to me as a part of roleplay.

Well ... all the regulars here know my answer.

OP: I put a piece of tape over my compass, directly on the TV screen. There is literally no compass in my game. :) everybody here makes fun of me for this but I just tell 'em "meh" :meh: Naw, just kidding.

I hardly ever look at the map. The only time I usually look at it is if I'm in a town, so I can navigate which direction to start from. Once I'm in the wilderness, it's rare I'll look at the map, and only a magic-using character will be able to do so in my world. I enjoy getting lost in the woods somewhere, with only the sun, moons, and stars to guide me. I like using ground shadows to figure out which direction I am supposed to go; for instance, if it's morning and the shadows fall to my right, this means my character is pointing south. This is girl scout/boy scout stuff. :geek:

@ladyonthemoon: I think you disable quest markers by making any Active quests non-active. I think this is how it's done. I hardly ever use 'em, needless to say.

Maddy21, that sounds wonderfully exciting (and scary) and I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yup, lots of fun ways to play this great game!

My character's a wood elf, so it's not really possible for her to get lost in in the forest.

It's great fun sometimes, when you're not sure where you're going. I stopped playing with the compass after reading Renee's thread of pretend mods for consoles, using a 3DS game case propped up to cover it. With my current character though I've changed my approach. Instead I just cut out a bit of cardboard to prop up in front of my TV, covering the compass completely, with a window cut out of it. This way I still get the compass to tell me which way north is, but all the location and quest markers are covered.

Combine that with only using the map while in a city, or at a crossroads with a signpost that points to several cities, and I can still get lost, but still get a better idea of where I'm going than "over there".

It′s been ages since I ever did any quest in Oblivion so I have forgotten what it′s all about anyway. I do like Renee′s Delete Compass mod even though I may not use it as much. I guess I sit too close to the screen so I see it very clearly, and it bugs me :meh:
