Oblivion mod help please!

Post » Sun Apr 24, 2011 10:07 pm

Hi,
I have downloaded a bunch of cool looking mods for Oblivion from file planet and am having real trouble unzipping the files in order to play. I have win zip and when I go to unzip it does not give me an option as to where the files should go. In win zip it shows all the files in the box but I really dont know what to do next. I have tried one click unzip which is an option on win zip but when I do it I dont know where the files are going.I really want to try some of these sweet mods but need a little help please. Can any one give me a step by step order on how to do this please? Thank you!

Best advice would to get 7Z file utility. Most of the zipped files are done using it and it's much easier to use than ZIP.

WinRAR is also free, handles a wide variety of archive formats, and is exceptionally easy to use.

Well disabling the UAC has prevented that annoying limited use error message. The problem is I cannot figure out where to unzip the files to. I am using Quarls texture pack 3 mod. it is an Obmm mod I have tried extracting the files to my Oblivion data file but when I start the game and look in the data folder there is no mod. Also I cant find a mod file in my oblivion folder. I do see the obmm in there somewher but it wont open. any help I woud be grateful. Thank you.

Apart from Quarl's Texture Pack likely never appearing in your data files, as texture replacers usually don't need ESPs, an .OMOD file is something different altogether. You will need OBMM, the Oblivion Mod Manager to even get the files from inside it placed into your folders. Now if you have OBMM installed, usually all that needs to be done to get an OMOD into the folder OBMM uses for its OMODs is to double-click it. OBMM should open, asking if you want it imported or some such and that's it. Once an OMOD is inside OBMM's list of OMODs double-clicking it will extract and install its files, go through potential installation scripts, etc. If there is an ESP (or more) included, they will appear in the left list which represents your load order and need to be checked for them to have any effect. But refering to the Mod FAQ is really in order here, because there's quite some different things to do according to what type of mod you're installing.
