*** OBLIVION MODS FAQ ***

Post » Wed May 26, 2010 8:58 am

Thought I should mention (though it's really kind of redundant; everyone already knows how good this FAQ is) - the Oblivion Mods FAQ is listed under "Other" on the (new) http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Portal:Featured_Content, which merits it a little tag at the top of the page mentioning this honor.

I based the date on when the FAQ was added to the Wiki; really it should be whenever it got stickied. If anyone happens to remember that date, it'd be appreciated.

Awesome! That's very cool, man! :tops:

The Oblivion Mods FAQ first got stickied in early August, 2006, but I don't remember the exact date. I posted about it in http://devakm.blogspot.com/2006/08/elder-scrolls-forum-pins-faq.html on August 4, 2006. Wow, was it really that long ago? Seems like just yesterday.... ;)

Might want to remove references to the old TES4 Plugin Utility by ScripterRon and use the newer http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8665 link. Old links to ScripterRon's tool no longer work anyway.

I've just cleaned out a lot of "pvssyr" from this thread.

This is not a thread for asking questions.

I have downloaded OOO 1.3 and 1.31 I installed them and received a error message that said three files were broken the tralier.wmv the livingeconomy and the Level Rate Modifier addon. However I dont think these apply to the problem I am having. When I create a new character I receive a torch that says hotkey and when the lead female guard comes down she is only a disembodied head and sword. This is obviously a texture problem, but the OOO is the last mod to load and I only have official mods on otherwise I have the shivering isles with its latest patch as well. Is there something wrong with the texture files for the female guard armor?

I'm not sure if you guys can help me. I was just wondering if there was any way in order to get Shivering Isles, Wizards Tower, and the Thieves Den for the XBox 360 without using XBox Live. Also, if there is any downloadable content of any sort for armor other than for horses I would like to know. If anyone could help me out, even if it's a simple no, please contact me at Usmilac12@aol.com or Usmilac12@yahoo.com, the help would be very much appreciated. Thanks guys and have a Merry Christmas.

Hi, im new to this forum and the world of moding. I briefly scrolled through the list of responses but couldnt find my question asked or answered.
Im a final year University of Portsmouth student undertaking my dissertation. My course gives me the chance to take a more practicle approach, rather than writing the standard 10,000!!!
In a nutshell, I have decided to score parts of the Oblivion game. Since I am new to modding I was wondering if I could get some help and advice. for example, what do software do I need to get my music into some of the game levels?? After that, how do I get it in there. Im not interested in re-scoring the whole game maybe just a few levels, i.e. one or two towns, maybe the general map/travel screen (wilderness) and a cutscene.
Any help, advice or pointers would be really appreciated.
Sincerely
RandomSpank

New Mod Installer: Bain
Bain is a feature of Wrye Bash (v245 or higher); it's available through the Wrye Bash Installers tab. Bain was created in part to avoid some problems associated with OBMM, hence in many ways its easier to use the OBMM (no need to create OMODs, easier to monitor status of packages, easier to create archives). However, it does not have all features of OBMM (no scripting, no BSA editing).

Bain was specifically designed to work well with manually installable archives, thus: 1) most existing mod archives will work fine with Bain with no changes, and 2) archives designed specifically to work with Bain will also work well as manually installable archives.

To add a mod package to Bain, simply download it to the Bain Installers directory. Archives with simple structure will work immediately with no extra effort required. More complex archives may require some restructuring before all of their components are available.

Once a package is available in Bain, you can configure and install it. Process is typically:
1. For complex packages, activate sub-packages as desired.
2. For mods with alternate/optional esps/esms, use the Esp/m Filter list to ignore mods that you want to skip.
3. Right click on mod and choose Install.

To uninstall a package in Bain, just right click on it and choose "Uninstall".

For more information on Bain, see:

how do I install mods that I have purchased and downloaded from bethesda's website when I am currently using Windows Vista 64-bit? I'm aware that they have the disclaimer about such users, but I honestly cannot find the Windows installer that they are talking about and I know i did not delete it as I just recently did a full restore from the restoration disks.

Check my signature about Vista-64 solutions and official mods.

Dev, if you would, could you add this part to the 1st post? It will help people who use X64 OS :)

Thanks

Will do. I'll add it to the Wiki version now. The main post is overdue for an update based on all the changes I've made recently in the Wiki version, but I just haven't found time to do it yet.

Thanks!

I'd like to propose that the OP be updated to include a link to TRB's guide to the community:

http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=995481&st=0

It may require a little tidying, and I suspect it should be renamed to reflect its purpose as a "Newbie's guide for newbies" It may also have to be moved to another site (possibly the wiki) to stop it being culled.

However, it covers a lot of useful information about things not specifically covered in the main thread, such as etiquette, acronyms etc. and the fact it was written by somebody so new to the community gives it a good perspective.

I agree. I think it needs to be replicated to the wiki with a little cleanup first, but otherwise yeah I'll definitely add a link to it. :D

Hi dev_akm!

I have made a list that contains most mod lists http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1010109. It could be useful for players trying to find a mod list of a specific theme or one recommended by another player. :)

Cheers!

Not sure where to ask this and since it may or may not be a good addition to the FAQ depending on whether or not I can read...

Is there any way to get past the vanilla cap on ~255 active mods? Like other then merging mods in Wrye Bash but through some other utility (or Wrye Bash itself). I'm fast approaching the cap and would love to be able to add more mods, and have heard of people having 300+ active mods (thought if they were merged via Wrye Bash, they didn't say).
