Oblivion, no more!

Post » Thu Sep 29, 2011 12:45 am

Greetings fellow TES fans! For my first topic on these lovely forums, I wish to share with you about a problem of mine, and also ask you guys if you feel the same way. I wish I could play Oblivion to get my fix until Skyrim arrives, but as soon as I start the game up, I just can't enjoy it. I cherish the memories I have from spending countless of hours in Cyrodiil, but it's just not the same anymore.

All the info about Skyrim and all just outshines Oblivion in every aspect there is for me, and it drives me insane because I WANT to be able to enjoy it while waiting for 11-11-11! Hell, even my birthday which is the 10th of November is overshadowed by the day of days, when Skyrim hits the shelves. And I hope I won't start a fuzz when mentioning the fact that I'm playing on the 360, so unfortunately mods can't be used to keep my current abstinence in check. :)

So my question for you, boys and gals (and people in-between), can your thirst for Skyrim be quenched by playing one of it's predecessors? Or do you get the same empty feeling like I do when booting up the old masterpieces of Bethesda?

I feel the same, I just can't play oblivion even though I have a computer (finally!) that can run it with better graphics than PS3, new quests, new weapons and new enemies. Even with a leveling overhaul mod it just feels bleh.

I'm actually dragging myself through Oblivion again, but it's kind of...blah. Played it too many times. I'm wondering if I should fire up Fallout 3, since it sounds like a lot of Skyrim features take after that. I don't want to run out and buy another game this close. :unsure2:

Basically, 2006 was a loooooooooooooooong time ago in gaming terms. It's 40 years old in game years and people are divorcing it.

By the way, I forgot - have a fishy stick - http://images.uesp.net/c/c4/Fishystick.jpg

Yeknom, if you're going to do get Fallout New Vegas. A lot of the gameplay elements of Skyrim are from that (companions, factions etc).

Oblivion is dead to me and honestly hasn't aged well, unless you have a PC and can mod I guess.

I don't.

That being said... I still play games from the 90's.

Same here.

Tried Oblivion, but I know where all quests lead, all possibilties... All that's left is just dungeon diving. :(
However, Morrowind still suprises me with interesting and new stuff. Then again I didn't play Morrowind as intensely as Oblivion.

I still play Oblivion on the my 360 and bring back some nostalgic memories, and even though I have pc, I fire up the ol' Xbox and play some Morrowind, ahhh, fond memories of me waiting in queue, totally hyped to play Morrowind on my Xbox (Around then, I didn't really have much games to play on the Xbox)

I tried to get daggerfall to work on my computer but the sites that told me how to get it working on vista. Finally i found a site that told me exactly what commands to use in my dos emulator (well it spelled one or two wrong but i figured it out) and it turned out that the game i downloaded was corrupt so i figured i would download it from another site later, that was 2 weeks ago. Ill get daggerfall to work later then play that until skyrim.

League of legends is free and kinda fun though

I'm currently playing Oblivion :hubbahubba: Teaching my fiancee how to play it too. She saw the trailer and screenshots for Skyrim, and now she wants to play it, so I'm teaching her basics about TES :D

Yeah, Fallout 3 is still keeping me busy. :) It's not TES, but it's still a blast.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I can't enjoy older games. I just can't enjoy TES games at this stage with a sequel just around the corner!

I would play Oblivion more if it didn't had the addiction to Crash every time I try to play it for some hours.

I tried as you did but to no avail. Seems like Skyrim is really taking the spotlight in my mind.

Release date is coming very fast and it'll be in your hands before you know it.

Same here. I love Oblivion and reloaded it months ago to replay but sadly got bored quickly.
I am actually playing totally different games (Left4Dead and Company of Heroes) to pass the time until 11/11/11.

I can understand Oblivion can be blah sometimes but several older games are as well. I enjoyed Oblivion with 100's of hours of gameplay and I occassionally play it now but I RP characters that do specific things such as:

1. Using h2h only, challenging at first but pretty fun at high levels ( Skyrim seems a little better even though it's not a skill)
2. Playing a whitecloak in the Wheel of Time series and killing all mages and evil characters
3. playing a pacifist (not easy)
4. Playing races I normally wouldn't play (orcs, khajiits, bosmers (looks awesome in Sk), redguards (I like now, maybe I will play in Sk).
5. Just trying new things in the game-it's pretty big if you think about it.

You played Morrowind, right?

I continue to go back to it. Up until this year, I never did the Telvanni questline. Seriously, there is so much to do...way more than Oblivion. Double the questlines.

Yeah I did spend a lot of time with Morrowind. :) I wish I could play it, I have the GOTY for PC around here somewhere, but as I don't have a PC to play it on it's unfortunately not a possibility. I have been thinking about trying to get ahold of the Xbox version, since I've heard you can run it on the 360? But I've heard that the Xbox version of Morrowind doesn't run very smooth, any truth to that?

Yeah... I'm kinda feeling the same. Just recently made a new character on Oblivion and can't really play for too long as it gets boring. =/ Once you know what to do and what will happen in every quest all the fun is kinda svcked out of it. :sadvaultboy:

Yeah tell me about it. I just love the feeling I got the first time I stepped into the huge world in Morrowind, and Oblivion, same with Fallout 3. Not knowing anything about where to go and how to be successful, that's what makes it fun for me, when you feel like you're just trying to scraqe by, scauaging and looting everything you can to make money. But when you've been milking the games since they came out they don't feel that big or dynamic anymore. It's quite logical though I guess. :)
