Oblivion Nords vs Skyrim Nords

Post » Sat Feb 15, 2014 12:42 am

Based on the game depictions of Nords in both Oblivion and Skyrim which do you prefer? The Skaal are excluded from this competition.

Here is how I see it

Oblivion Nords

+ Friendly and welcoming

+ Humorous

+ Sticks more to true Nordic traditions especially in regards to Religion

+ More friendly to the Arcane than the ones in Skyrim

+ Happy people

- blatantly unintelligent

- lazy

- whiny

- Ugly (though this applies to every race in Oblivion with the exception of Imperials and Mer)

- No beards

Skyrim Nords

+ Very Hardworking

+ Significantly more intelligent

+ Unquestionably more attractive (especially the females :hehe: )

+ More hardcoe

+ Beards

- Imperialized to a severe degree

- a little too xenophobic

- Less friendly to the Arcane than the ones in Oblivion

- Always grumpy

- annoying at times

Overall I think I like Oblivion's Nords slightly better. Why? For one they stick the to the actual Nordic pantheon and resist Imperial influence thus making them feel like they are a different race rather than the Northern Colovians we seem to have gotten in Skyrim. Also the Nords in Skyrim were always grumpy in my opinion where as the Nords in Oblivion had more of a carefree attitude and enjoyed themselves a lot.

I like Skyrim "snow monkeys" better because of the culture/religion revealed. In Oblivion they were just your boring old axe wielding mercenaries.

I like Skyrim Nords better than Oblivion Nords (Oblivion Nords are allright though), but I like Oblivion Imperials better than Skyrim Imperials.

I guess because the race whose homeland the game takes place in gets a more in-depth and varied representation.

I hate what has become of the Nords in Skyrim but I love the Nords of east Skyrim.

I hated the nords on Oblivion.

I voted I like Skyrim Nords and hate Oblivon nords.

I don't really hate the nords in Oblivion, I just found it odd that none of them had beards.

Once again for the hundredth time: I prefer Oblivion Nords because the Skyrim boys don't have half their houses underground.

I like the more Scandinavian feel to the Skyrim Nords plus they actually show intelligence but they've completely abandoned their Gods for the Divines with the exception of the Skaal but I voted the last option because yolo swaggins and the fellowship of the bling

Beards, ridiculous Scandinavian accents, war paint...... Skyrim's Nords. No question.

They went from somewhat interesting and a little enticing to play in Oblivion to "dafuq is this generic viking bullcrap" in Skyrim.

Nords of the past were more interesting than Nords in the present(I'm speaking of the dragon cult, too).

The characters in Oblivion had a little more humor about them which was actually funny, and personality wise more likable. In Skyrim the characters are a little too serious & stiff, it's left to people like Belethor or Cicero to add really awkward humor that feels forced.

Funny people aren't let into skyrim. Look at how the locals treat Cicero just for being funny.

Shouldn't this be in Elder Scrolls discussion? Most everyone is biased here so it's quite obvious that the choice will be Skyrim.

Yea, I knew you would say that. However just put aside MK's stuff for a moment and pick which of these Nords you like better.

How about "no" to that suggestion, and we go with the Nords who are not dragged down by game limitations and marketing?

Again that is not the question. The question is if you had to choose between the the Nords in Oblivion or Skyrim, who would you pick.

They're both Troglodytic and shame the Old Ways, praise be. So... the "I hate both option."

But if Valdar opened my coffin, chained me down, and gave me an ultimatum... then I guess I'd choose Oblivion nords for being less primitively superstitious. And for being a bit more enjoyable to be around in general. :shakehead:

The naked Nords of Morrowind were the best :P but between the two choices I think the Skyrim nords win out. It could be said that they are too generic and lose a lot of their identity in Skyrim but I think that just because you kind of get used to them since they are the major population this time around. Put any city from Oblivion next to any city in Skyrim and you can definately feel the different vibes.

I still need to get around to solstheim in my Morrowind playthrough but yes I choose the naked ones on Vvardenfell to the skyrim or oblivion Nords.
