Oblivion Nostalgia; your favorite things of this game after

I miss the quests.
I miss the guilds.
I miss the awesome mods.
I miss fighting Slaughterfish in the water.
I miss jumping on the crates in the Market District in the Imperial City...

I miss seeing my character every time I open the inventory.

And I miss this oh so much.

Why so many people miss Oblivion is something I′m having trouble understanding. All they need to do is pop in the disc ;)

I miss getting svcked into the quests. when i played oblivon (and later morrowind) i got really into the quests and felt excitment, nerves, anticipation; i cared about the people, the settings, and the tasks i was being asked to do. i dont feel like this in skyrim. most of the npc's you cant even talk to, and a lot of the time you dont have an option of what you want to say to them. i just find myself following a quest marker, clobbering my way through a dungeon and getting the quest update. i think the radiant quests are a good idea, but theyre all so similar and generic and lack that personal touch that oblivion's and morrowind's had.

Oh dear...I see some of my friends on here start going with the "Oh noez! TES 6 will just be a Quick time button masher"
Which will never, ever happen.

Skyrim is an RPG.
TES is an RPG series.
And it will stay that way until the last TES game.

...The funniest thing is when two NPC couples have the exact same conversation at the same time but slightly delayed, right next to each other

I know. I love this too, though I can see how it could irk somebody, breaking immersion for him or her. But i personallly love this about Oblivion. There's a lot of unintentional humor within the game. Sometimes I need a good laugh, too, after hours of work and dealing with my stuck-up ex.

I miss....something, I can't put my finger on it, while I do prefer Skyrim way more because it gives me for freedom for RPing, Oblivion has something special, heck when I played Oblivion after playing Skyrim forever I got this fuzzy feeling inside :3, like when I heard the music for the first time in forever, it as the town music I was in Skingrad I just stayed there hearing the music.
Note that I play Skyrim without the music, but I always play Oblivion with music set at low, but no, that's not it, guessing that Oblivion has a special place in my heart

I think "charm" is the word you're looking for? Skyrim has its own charm too, don't get me wrong, but it can't touch Oblivion's charm, which is more Monty Pythonish or something.

I know. Sometimes in Oblivion it would not surprise me if the Spanish Inquisition burst in with the fluffy pillow, and the comfy chair! :D Especially after seeing things like a legionary and his horse swim across Lake Rumare. Or any of the other strangeness that the NPCs get up to.

"I saw a mudcrab the other day..."
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Heheh, Yea your right Renee charm is exactly the word that I'm looking for, it makes me feel fluffy inside every time that I play now :3

The ability to be an unarmed martial arts combatant who with a "perfect for that class" mod did not even need to wear armor. Or my Ninja to to be much faster and jump higher than my Ranger. Yes, at least I can still pseudo create a Ninja or a Ranger in Skyrim, but the monk alas is gone(heavy armor is NOT a feature of an unarmed monk - and swinging a staff like a sword(via mod) is not the answer either)

Hooray for random sillines! :twirl:

They also seem to like to kill people who refuse to pay a fine or go to jail just because they happened to touch something somewhere :nono:

- Classes
- Birthsigns
- Athletics, Acrobatics and Mysticism
- NPC don't talk too much when you pass near them
- Certain dungeons
- Weapons and armors degrade over time
I also miss the living NPCs: sure Radiant AI sure had a looong way to go, but people would talk to others, visit their relatives in other cities, sleep, eat, and go shopping. I also miss the longer questlines and the DB.

The third person camera. I don't know what it is, but Skyrims camera seems to fight me, mocking me all the time. It's like I'm fighting the game.

Huh? I'm of the opposite opinion. I could never play Oblivion very long in 3rd person. Skyrim however feels natural to me.

Just a note, I'm not saying you are wrong, just expressing my surprise.

Oh, Oblivions camera can be really annoying sometimes but Skyrims camera manages to feel both inconsistent and awkward. e.g. when I move the mouse will my character turn? It depends on if they're moving or have weapons out or not. Just a whole bunch of tiny annoyances that add up.

I'm with King Coin on this one. I think they did a great job on the 3rd person camera (and player character animations) in Skyrim. Not perfect, but a step up from Oblivion.

As for first person, for me the Oblivion first person camera is vastly superior. It feels more stable, more perfect in its placement. Whereas in Skyrim the only time I bother with 1st person is archery and picking through containers, because the Skyrim 1st person camera somehow feels weird and constraining to me.

Maybe I'm just missing something but I couldn't get the camera to turn without turning my character while moving. I use this a lot in Oblivion to look around without changing direction, it's especially handy when running from something to be able to look behind you without turning.

The animations are indeed better though.

well I played skyrim first, and because it was so amazing I also bought oblivion (after completing every achievement in skyrim leaving only a few sidequests i can go back to and a little less than 100 dungeons to explore)

the things i love in oblivion that are not in skyrim:
Npc conversations
guards
the factions list in the menu
the arena
spell creation
mysticism
the levelling system
fame/infamy
the speechcraft minigame, and how disposition works

thats all i can think of now

Many Npc conversations are in Skyrim, and they are more personal instead of the usual "I saw a mudcrab" from oblivion.

I do not understand why people are missing Oblivion's NPC conversations for any other reason than lolz.

Spell-making, Daedric Realms (specifically Sheogorath's), the Gray Fox, Lucien Lachance, the Mythic Dawn, and of course the unicorn.

Also, Acrobatics.

The atmosphere. II love Skyrim and all it's bleakness, but Oblivion had seemed like a fantasy within a fantasy
Those NPC lines, they grew on you
The gates. Yes, I know they could not work in Skyrim. But they were fun!
The Guards. Got to love the guards. Skyrim had good guards to.
Everything really. I love this game, but I need to finish it.

I got it a month or two before Skyrim. I only finished the Dark Brotherhood, the Arena, a lot of other quests, and got to level 24 or so. I still have the mages guild, thieves guild, fighters guild, Knights of the Nine Eight, and Shivering Isles to beat

1- Argonian and Khajiit voices. They don't sound...quite exotic in Skyrim as they did in Oblivion. Argonins sound like humans for Talos' sake!

2- Ragdoll. Remember how in Obivion a bandit could literally do a cartwheel if you strike the final blow hard enough? In Skyrim, the bandit seems to rapidly enter rigor mortis and topple over. Sometimes, they may do a weird 'dance' before they fall.

3- Being able to see your character in the inventory.

4- Being able to do quests without inadvertingly starting others, or being forced to start others.

5- Not being forced to have to join a guild to complete the MQ.
