Oblivion Not Working Upon Reinstall

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 9:14 am

Hello,

I have a problem. Due to my massive amount of mods, I was planning to reinstall Oblivion. I ensured that all files, including mod ones, were completely deleted. Oblivion reinstalled fine, however, upon start up, it simply crashed after showing the Bethesda logo!

I use Steam, Game Of The Year Deluxe versions, Windows 7.

The game worked perfectly fine before... I'm just wondering why not now.

Can someone please help me?

Did you remove your Oblivion.ini to refresh it? Did you delete the whole data folder before you reinstalled?

Indeed I did, I removed every trace of Oblivion before reinstall.

The only thing I can think of is that it could be unable to load the menu, and therefore crashing, because I don't have DarnifiedUI installed.

Shouldn't matter on a clean install. Have you verified the files yet, since you're using Steam?

It sounds like you have mods loading for some reason... What does the Data Files list show when you go through the launcher menu?

Speaking of which, have you checked your plugins.txt file? Just a thought.

1. There is no datafiles, apart from all the DLC and Shivering Isles, but they're all not active.

2. I managed to solve the problem by reinstalling Darnified UI.

Which doesn't make a bit of sense if you wiped everything. You must have missed something. Things just don't work that way.

I'm confused... :s

It's probably the ini file like you thought at first (since it is in the My documents folder it was probably not deleted) and IIRC Darnified changes the ini file to change the fonts.

Yeah, but what troubles me is the fact that (s)he said they wiped Oblivion entirely. It just doesn't make sense to me if they did wipe it...

OP, delete your Documents/My Games/Oblivion folder. If you want your saves, move the Saves folder out of there prior to deleting it. There is a hardware spec-related .txt file and the Oblivion.ini in there which should probably be freshly regenerated. I think there might be three files to delete, but if you'd just delete those two and try again...
