Oblivion player, new to Morrowind

Post » Tue Dec 29, 2009 11:54 am

First off, I love the atmosphere and attention to detail this game has!

I've muddled through getting used to a few things which are different between the two games and changed a few of the command keys around, so I think I'm okay there...

But how do I delete an individual save from my files and how do I poison a weapon? I'm on PC.

Thanks!

Can't poison weapons in Morrowind. You need to rely on enchantments and spells if you want to do that.

Not sure about the second as I play on Xbox.

Also, most Oblivion players are generally directed to this file; it's extremely useful for figuring things out.

To delete individual saves just navigate to your Morrowind folder (C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind) and delete whichever save you need to from the Saves folder. The only way to poison a weapon in Morrowind is to bring the weapon to an enchanter and have them put a spell on it, the spell can be anything from poison to fire, or any other spell in the game. You can't just get a potion and apply to the weapon like you can in Oblivion.

Hi! Glad you're enjoying Morrowind!

IIRC there should be a "Saves" folder in your Morrowind directory. Saves are ".ess" files.

For poisoning weapons - you can't in vanilla, but with http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=4077 you can!

Thanks for the info!

I got past a "duh" moment when trying to figure out North from South with no actual compass symbols.

I have read through the wiki stuff, which is helpful. I'll post any further questions in the "spoilers" section.

Fun game! The general graphics aren't bad even though the NPCs and their animations take some getting used to. I have to agree with the typical gripes I've read regarding the combat system. I'll eventually mod the graphics and audio.

I just started playing this game too, but on Xbox 360 instead of PC. I need to get use to the "clunkiness" of it after playing Oblivion.

Ok, I have a question about the journal in Morrowind. I have the GOTY edition, and I was wondering if, since it includes Tribunal, if the journal shows the individual quests, or if there is even a way to do so. It's a little annoying flipping through a bunch of random pages.

I'm fairly certain you can't go by specific quests, but you should be able to chose specific topics. The GOTY journal notes down everything anybody has ever said to you, so while using the journal you can press some button (don't remember which) and bring up sort of an index. Click on a letter and you can view every topic you've talked to someone about starting with that letter. Click on a topic and you can view everything anybody has said to you about that topic.

There IS a quest list with GOTY. I'm using Polish version of the game and I don't know exact button name, but it should be there. Just open journal with "J" button and look around there.

Damn. I hate it when I give out false info. Well what version of the game do you have? PC or console?

PC. After opening the journal, click on Options in lower-left corner, and then there are Missions (or something like that) on the right, over Cancel.

Does it only apply while playing Tribunal or for the whole game?

Ok so I'm going to guess it doesn't apply to people who play it on the 360 because I can't finf it at all. I do see the Topic Index thing, but not a missions list.

I can say for sure that I have both expansions and I have the quest list. But my memory tells me it comes with Tribunal expansion.

Per the Morrowind Wikipedia:

The most notable aspect of Tribunal is the modification of Morrowind's journal system. In the original game, a player's journal can become extremely lengthy and cumbersome. Tribunal allows a player to sort his journal by quest (instead of chronologically sorted) in order to determine what is required for a specific quest.

It's still unwieldy, and I'm really surprised no effort was made to allow players to remove quest entries manually, or attach specific guild/house/main quest searchable flags, etc. But it's a helluva lot better than the original, in my opinion.

Canis Humanis, you'll be pleased with the modded graphics. I think they look almost as good as Oblivion. I started off with the Morrowind Graphics and Sound Overhaul package. Just that alone will dramatically improve your game experience. Of course I went crazy and have almost 120 mods now! ;-) Its shocking what the mod community has been able to do with this old 2002 game! I havent played it in 8 years, but am enjoying it again like it was new. Im still amazed at things like Abot's Birds,Waterlife, and Siltstrider mods; and Children of Morrowind; and Needs of Morrowind; and Better Music System; and Tamriel Rebuilt. Modding is surely not for the easily frustrated, but the end result is worth it and makes me glad I play on PC! ;-)

I have yet to play Morrowind myself. I spent about 10 hours this weekend downloading mods, going through readme’s, and trying to install everything.
I am still not finished. Probably have another 2-3 hours installing before I can finally play this game I hear so much good things about.

Would be awesome if there was a massive installer that simplified a lot of things but it seems the modders don’t want to collaborate on that. Which leaves people fending for themselves for the most part. In the meantime the best thing I have found
Is this guide…

http://knotstheinane.blogspot.com/p/morrowind-modding-guide.html

This probably decreased my install time by about 30 hours of forum hunting and troubleshooting.

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1181729-relz-morrowind-overhaul-sounds-graphics/ and soon to be http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1182408-wipz-morrowind-overhaul-game-experience. The vast majority of modders are willing to collaborate, but there's a proper way to do it.
Plus if you need help, you can always ask on the forums and check some links http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1060141-mod-recommendations-for-new-players/page__p__15392814#entry15392814.

See you around.
