Oblivion's Real Estate

Post » Sun Sep 19, 2010 6:32 pm

Over at Oblivion's Real Estate we have just finished the Castle Homes Challenge which was a great success. However we are already thinking of the next challenge. We would like this challenge to be held over one month so cannot choose a category that will be really huge like Towns.

So let us know what you would like to see and think would be fun.

So far Cave Homes is quite popular and hasn't been done before. Personally I think a hotel/inn challenge is much needed and would be something different and fun, however I am not sure we would get a lot of entrants.

There is also the option to make over a vanilla home....maybe a Waterfront Shack Challenge.

Exterior Homes would be challenging.

Silly homes would be the most nonsensical, strange house imaginable and would really challenge peoples creativity.

Thinking on it, Cottage Homes was pretty much covered in the Country Homes and Estates Challenge.

Mountain Homes would be any type of home located on a mountain.

If by "Dimensional" you mean things like "pocket homes" and "summonable homes" and things like that, thats where my vote is going. I love being able to cast a spell to transport/summon my home, drop my loot, and go back out. Kind of cheap I guess, but its helpful.

I voted Other. I'd like to see more homes with a dark theme to them. There are a few for necromatic/assassin types but compared to the others they are few and far between. There is so much talent at ORE that I would truly love to see what those minds could come up with for that type of theme.

Yes, sometimes, I travel the darkside! ;)

Throwing around ideas here...

What about a romatic getaway hotel with themed rooms and stunning views from balconies out over Cyrodiil.

Or a mountain retreat where the main log cabin building has a restaurant and the rooms you rent are tiny cottages randomly dotted about on the mountainside in the woods and joined by narrow paths. A perfect private getaway. I made one of those for the Sims 2.

Or an underwater hotel made of Phitt's domes where the main lobby dome is completely see through and you can see the fish swimming around and the surface of the water from deep below. Every room has a window that you can see out from, like the windows in http://www.oblivionsrealestate.com/Find_A_Home/Underwater_Homes/underwater_homes.html. That would be awesome!

Or a small castle that is converted to a posh hotel that hides a dark past you can uncover and ghosts. I made one of those for Morrowind.

Or a cave hotel where the lobby is a massive main cavern with waterfalls.

Or a tree home hotel where the rooms you can rent are exterior rooms and you move around the place on the rope bridges.

Or a cliff hotel where the rooms are again little cabins hanging on the cliff face, and one large main building for restaurant. So that the place looks like a little cliff village.

Or an evil hotel with a ''whodunnit murder quest'.

*Breathe Shezrie, breathe!*

No I haven't taken my pills today.

Of course I go with the majority when choosing a theme.

My vote goes for Mountain Homes, but only because I'm differentiating between Hotel/Inns and the sort of Rented Lodges you can get (which strike me more as Mountain Home than a Hotel or Inn-- I'm sure you know the sort I mean, where a family can rent out one home and live there as though it was their house, rather than a typical hotel).

An Ayleid Homes Challenge might be fun, or perhaps Beach Home (But that may be too similar to the water homes challenge)

I think as a contrast to the Castles, which are about the largest homes dedicated to a single owner, the next one should be tiny homes. As small as possible, but still containing a bed, storage, and whatever the contest rules require. Extra credit for getting a single item to do multiple jobs, (like an operating sofa-bed). Make it tough by specifying a large number of required items that have to be shoehorned in.

What about some kind of religious themed home, like a chapel home or a cave devoted to a daedric prince?

I agree with this actually. How about some homes themed for rangers and druids? I voted for other because of this.

I voted for Dimensional homes as well, because I often need a place that's easy to access, and they lead to some pretty neat places as well.
I honestly want my own little pocket dimension that fits my style of character, whatever it may be at that time. Maybe one that can be changed on a whim, from outright weird magic style(a personal favorite here), to something more... base(bloody, messy, maybe a few victims, er, "Volunteers" to feed upon), to something that fits the style of ruin we see in Indiana Jones movies.

The options are endless for pocket homes, because they're limited only by the creators imagination. Money means nothing to most Mages, and if you can't find the perfect spot to place your tower, why not place it in a non-dimensional space?

How about a tower...inside of a cave that's inside of a mountain? That would be sweet.

I can only pick one? :(
Well if you want to do a one month mini-challenge (which would be awesome! :) ) I think inns would be out, we'd need more time to do a hotel....imo at least, but caves/mountain homes sound perfect.....but I'll go with mountains, 'cause there aren't enough mountain houses!

I have voted cottage, but then I saw that I was only one for that so I reverted my vote to inn/hotel as that sounds interesting now that I think about it.

I'd love to see a City Homes challenge, but I wouldn't wish having to deal with the inevitable cacophony of "Is this compatible with Better Cities?" questions on my worst enemy.

So I voted for a Cave home challenge. So often they are used as rustically appointed lairs for those who live on the lam, but caves can also be mystic, luxurious, or even sacred. They can house artifacts and outlaws alike. Go, cave, go! :celebration:

I voted other and what I mean by that is quest oriented homes.

After browsing the website many times and trying out many houses I always find that having a really fancy home (castle even) available for free or even $100,000 too immersion breaking. The very few homes with quests and something that hooks you into being invested in the house ... whatever it may be - are far more intriguing. Be it a shack, a cave, a castle or an entire dimension.

But I guess what would make sense is vanilla quest oriented - as in new accommodations for achieving rank in guilds/factions. That wouldn't require making new guilds factions major quest lines.

Hoarfrost Castle to me is the high mark on this kind of 'house.'

Tossed my vote in for inns/hotels. Provided they're away from the cities, along key resting points on the roads etc. The game doesn't have near enough of these.

I like Inns and hotels...Maybe make some competing inns near Weye...who lose all their business to the vanilla one, because they are always fighting and trashing each other. Maybe no one wants to stay there because of that reason.

Please no.

I agree with others that Inns would be good, but if anyone takes this up please consider that Weye is probably the most modded area of the entire game. I agree with arthmoor - out away from the cities and towns. Making more mods for already over-modded areas is a sure way to never have the mod included in an even moderately full load order.

There are plenty of areas for new inns - even out of the way creepy ones.

That wouldn't be too "difficult" to do actually, and I got an idea already in mind. Thank you for adding on something else to my list >.< lol. Seriously though, I think I could whip up something It won't be done soon then again I could throw something together quickly. As for the tower part? I could start with the white tower of the IC in the cave or transitioned to an ayleid ruin, with a very large base. Then this would be scaled accordingly up through the mountain to the very top. With a lot of floors to make use of the distance. Similar to ff4's babel tower.

I voted other, as okay maybe I'm biased, extremely biased towards Ayleid Architecture, but there's really not a lot of Ayleid stuff floating around out there. Yes, I know I have my own mod, yes I also know that it is huge and I know that I could infinitely improve upon it. It was my first mod so I'm proud of the scale in which I worked. My second vote though however goes to dimensional homes. I made a small one, but it was a lot of fun actually. I'm thinking that I could really have a lot of fun playing around with them just using core vanilla items.

I can picture it now...an awesome looking tower surrounded by a moat infested with slaughterfish in a jungle-ish themed cave. Or maybe ruins everywhere, like it was some old dwemer stronghold. I just started playing Oblivion again and I forget if it has those cool dwemer golems like Morrowind had. If it does, that would be epic too. Ahh so many possibilities but it sounds complicated to me, I'm terribly impatient with the CS... ><
I leave all the awesome mods to others :)
