Oblivion REMASTER

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 8:06 pm

I'm sure I am not the first to wish for this, and I am certain I will not be the last.

I would like to have The Elder Scrolls IV remade and remastered regarding graphics and gameplay.
There are obvious flaws in character appearance, dialogue, combat, etc. in Oblivion that they improved in Skyrim. In my opinion, Skyrim's gameplay is better, but the world is not one I can get into...

Oblivion's terrain is perfect to me - even though people say it was "too green and the same thing all around." In Cyrodiil, you can actually get LOST in the wilderness. In Skyrim, you're constantly crossing paths with roads... and glitches. Skyrim does not seem to have the addictive element of Oblivion in regard to the fact that I can get lost and emersed in the world of Oblivion. In my opinion, I think Oblivion has the best storyline and setting over Skyrim. Dragons are badass in Skyrim, but remade Oblivion gates with legit warefare and non-annoying Daedra would overpower Skyrim by a longshot. In Oblivion, ruins, dungeons and caves are just found out in the wilds (because Cyrodiil has a legit wilderness!) as Skyrim's dungeons have a little dirt road to nearly every entrance. The one thing about Oblivion's dungeons is that they could be more hand-made and less copy-paste; also, the caves shouldn't have a wooden door in front of them (due to the fact of them being uncharted).

I realize Oblivion has already been done; that Bethesda has never done anything like this; and that people have already adventured through the realm of Cyrodiil... but the world of Oblivion is the ideal open world I have always wanted, but it lacked in graphics and gameplay. I can only hope that one day, Oblivion will consider this (or some other game developer will make an open world RPG with the "perfect" terrain). It would be a dream come true if they made this a project and made it happen.

What does everyone else think? Do you think this is worth it? Would you like for Oblivion to be remastered and play it in a more enjoyable way? Or should they just leave it as-is and not even bother?

It's too soon imo. It's not worth it, they better focus on future installments in other provinces.

Instead of a remaster I would like to see a mesh of gameplay plus world from skyrim and oblivion in the next province installment. Take lessons from both, you know? I still have my hopes up that the next game will take place in elswyr so idk. But yeah, better installment over remaster right now. I wouldnt mind a redone morrowind though :) I could get behind that.....well....after the price drop XD I ish a poor college kid.

Only thing I would want is the Abomb bug to go away. Other then that, the 2006 version is fine.

^What he said. If they were to remake anything, it'd be Morrowind.

As much as I would love Oblivion to be remade as it is my favourite TES game, I can't see it happening. If you're on PC you can download mods to improve your experience. Luckily for me I play on Xbox but don't mind the graphics and can still play for hours.

And gameplay like dialogue and combat with finishing moves? I don't see that happening unless it's an official project. It's like changing the whole experience, you know?

I would love to see it but I'm too afraid that Beth will screw it up if they remade it.

Even though I play on x-box and it wouldn't really effect me, I think with pc mod's Oblivion could look just as good as Skyrim does. So I'd rather have the next installment of the games be a really good version of the best of all the TES games. I can deal with Oblivion the way it is. And yeah I think Elswer would be cool...errr or rather hot!

I'm not saying it wouldn't be nice, I'm just saying I'd rather have a whole new game. With a project like that it could take alot longer for them to come out with a new game. It's alot of work to add things to a game smoothly.

I really don't find it odd that there are paths leading to caves, even animal's make paths through the woods, I DO however find the stone pillars out of place. IF their is anything living in the cave that's going to come out it will leave a path. I often run cross country and find caves and dungeons from the wrong side and above. ( even with the markers, strait path over the mt...)

Why did you make a second thread identical to the other?

Finishing moves? No! I hate that nonsense. They cut away from your role-play view to show you something from an outside viewpoint. It destroys immersion. I don't use VATS in Fallout3 for the same reason.

What if they're toggleable? ;)

What if they're toggleable?

That would be a requirement for me. The problem is that Bethesda is so in love with them now, that they want to force them on the player, under the insane delusion that "everybody wants more." No, everybody does not want more! I don't get an instant replay when I do something successful in real life, and I don't want one in a role playing game -- they're completely out of place.

In any case, there's absolutely no reason to remake this game. It would not be a significant improvement, and it would be a waste of developer resources that could be applied to new projects. The game that really needs remaking is Daggerfall, the best actual RPG in the series, and they're not going to do that because it would be too huge for today's technology.

Only this. Just this. I'm perfectly satisfied with the sandbox framework.

I would like a remake. Oblivion is my favorite game ever, and yes, I've played Morrowind.

Ahhhh...a man after my own heart. In fact I was going to say that if Oblivion was ever remade the one change I'd want is for Cyrodiil to be reproduced using the same land-scaling as Daggerfall. THAT would be incredible. Never gonna happen, not in my lifetime anyway. But hey, a fellow can dream.

Well, ok. One more thing. I wouldn't mind if the remake gave us Radiant A.I. as promised in that now-infamous yummy pre-release demo video. Another pipe-dream.

Realistically, I certainly wouldn't mind if they updated the game to:
  • Fix stuff like the a-bomb and PS3 Vampire Cure bug for console versions. (Modders have handled this on computer.)
  • On PC, update the game engine so it utilizes modern computer hardware (multi-core CPUs, high-end graphics cards) and be far more resource-efficient, insuring that few if any mods break in the process. Modders can do the rest.

By the way, you might be happy to know that the DaggerXL project, which seemed dead-in-the-water these past some months, is being worked on again.

I would be happy with just a patch that updated the engine to its current, optimized state. Even to the state it was in FO3 would be great. I think the graphics and everything else is fine. I would just like a game that did not stutter all the time, even with modern hardware (an i7 processor, 12 gig of ram, GTX 580 video card).

I'll be honest. If I never hear the words "reboot" or "remake" or "remaster" again it will be too soon for me.

It's only been 6 years since Oblivion was released, there's mods for this sort of thing.

I actually wouldn't want the Graphics upgraded, I feel that would lose the charm that Oblivion would have. I wouldn't be against the Character's faces being cleaned up and made better looking but that would be the extent of any graphical changes.
