Oblivion Revamped.

I'm sure Bethesda is busy making ends meet and creating new games and all that good stuff for us fans, but imagine if they went back and gave oblivion a facelift, a remodel of sorts. They interpreted new graphics, gameplay options and a few new things, so instead of making a new game they made an old one better.

Doesn't have to be oblivion, TESIV was personally my favorite, it could be morrowind as well. I know there are mods out there that make it look prettier and give it some new options and stuff, but if they did a complete and total makeover of the game and re-released it, i wander if it would get any hits, if people would like to see that or if people would rather see new games come out and leave the old to be in peace?

I for one wouldn't mind and would slap down money for a revamped Morrowind or Oblivion, even with ESO out now.

Someone mentions this about once a month, in one or the other forums around here. We just have to accept the fact that it will never happen and move on. Yes, it's probably a nice dream to consider in an idle moment but it's not going to happen and we just need to get used to that idea. That's my opinion.

I concur with PW.

I'd pay a crapload of money
Spoiler
like a couple grand, seriously I would spend that much in a heartbeat
just to get a version of Oblivion that was optimized to run on a 64 bit operating system with a multicore processor, even if it had no other improvement. But it is just a big pipedream. As you say, worth considering in an idle moment. It is more likely that modders will rebuild Oblivion's engine from scratch (like they are doing for Morrowind) than Beth doing anything with one of their older games.

I'm sorry but I don't want Bethesda wasting their time on a "reboot" (sorry, PW, I know how much you hate that word). TES VI is most likely going to be delayed until 2017 on account of Fallout 4 ( a game I have no interest in). I don't want it to be delayed one second longer on account of a "reboot" (sorry, again).

If some other company handled the "reboot" (sorry) would it be any good? I have serious doubts. Sure, Bethesda makes mistakes and we all have our personal gripes with how they have made individual games, but TES is their baby and they know it better than anyone else. I frankly don't trust outsiders to change Oblivion and do it with the same kind of fidelity that Bethesda would, and I don't want Bethesda doing it. So, in the end, I don't want anybody to do it.

And, in addition to all that what PW says is perfectly true: it's never likely to happen anyway.

I do "want" a reboot, mostly to get an optimized .exe file. Delaying TES VI would not bother me too much. Five years, six years, eight years, to paraphrase Uriel Septim, it will come when it will come.

I'd trust just about any other company to do a better job than Beth on technical improvements like optimization and bug fixes though. An outsider did a pretty good job of porting Oblivion to the PS3, much better than Beth ever did on a PS3 port.

Sigh, yeah, this is true.

Like it was stated chances for a reboot of Oblivion happening are almost none. Bethesda has taken the approach of creating new stories within the The Elder Scrolls universe. Each chapter in the series has been different and the next one will be different as well. There are many lands that still needs to be explored and new stories and legends to be heard and read.

Doing a reboot of Oblivion or any of the other games in the series will just delay the release of the next story. I think most of us would prefer to experience a brand new story.

Besides Oblivion still looks quite good even unmodified and is still playable on the PS3/Xbox and PC.

Fans are going to continue to revamp Oblivion themselves - there is that Skyrim mod and also it is very likely that one day, OpenOblivion can finally be a reality. In both cases, existing mods will be supported but if Bethesda remakes Oblivion, then we will lose all the mods that we love so much and they would have to be recoded from scratch.

Yeah its true there are many lands that need to be explored but with ESO most of those are covered and people have an idea of what they are like and the different cultures. I liked the fallout series beth did a good job on them but I personally love TES much more just because of the fantasy and storyline they have going to it and for how long its been around.

I know its likely not to happen but just like 343 did with Halo:Anniversary and gave it a graph reboot but without much tech done to the game, that would be pretty cool, and I am sure it wouldn't take THAT long, a few changes, a few kill cams newer graphics would be cool to see, I know its not going to happen likely for a while if at all, but that doesn't mean you can't brainstorm or talk about it.

TES IV still looks good on 360 or PC if you get it modded thats for sure, and I continue to play it just because i feel the quests and fantasy in Oblivion or Morrowind made it feel like a fantasy game more than Skyrims medieval feel.

Thats all just me personally though.

Some of us older gamers used to hope Bethesda would do this for Daggerfall, which badly needed completion.
