Oblivion running smoothly..

Post » Sat May 03, 2014 12:05 pm

So I'm playing Oblivion on my PC. But my PC isn't really that "badass" to play games.

My graphics are Medium by default but I changed a bit, like the view distance, water detail, etc..

But the game doesn't run smoothly as I want. So I was wandering, what's the best graphics settings to have in order to have a smoother game but also some good graphics on water detail, etc.

i know the answers to this question are a bit long, but If you could be as short and simple as possible, I will be happy :D

If you were wandering my PC performance, I don't know for the simple fact I'm using my work pc to post this topic but later tonight I will post them.

First thing to try is, if your not using a game pad is to disable that, and the Rumble.

Now, if your getting "micro stutters" then something like the Stutter Remover can help with this. BTW, you will also want to clamp your frame rates in the 40 to 50 range for best game performance (faster than 50 things can get weird and slower than 40 may not look smooth). The Stutter remover requires OBSE. You have to run it once before you can modify the cfg file, so keep that in mind. There are other things to clamp the frame rates with, but this tool does other things.

You also want to play the game under a Clean Boot, the less you have running in the background, the better.

Sis you install the game in Program Files or another directory. If you are running vista or higher OS, you should put the game outside of Program Files. Full installation instructions are here: http://tescosi.com/wiki/Complete_Installation_Guide_for_Oblivion_-_Part_1#tab=Introduction

To disable the gamepad, you need to go into the ini -- like we were discussing on the other thread.

Look for a line that says: "bUse Joystick=0" That means the joystick is disabled. if it is "bUse Joystick=1" you need to change the 1 to a zero to disable it.

While you are there, look for a line that reads: "iShadowMapResolution=256" and change it to "iShadowMapResolution=1024" This change is recommended by the TESCOSI website to make the game run better.

While you are there, you can also change "bBorderRegionsEnabled=1" to "bBorderRegionsEnabled=0" if you want to disable the invisible boarder.

There are all sorts of things you can do with the ini, just make sure to edit the one located in My Games/Oblivion, not the one in your Oblivion folder.

You can also turn off anti-aliasing, Bloom and HDR lighting in your game options menu, as all of those things can slow down the game. Might reduce draw distances and turn off grass or install a low poly grass mod.
