[RELz] Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE) 0018

Post » Thu Nov 25, 2010 11:28 pm

Does this crash happen 100% of the time for you? I tried 30 or so times, and only managed to get it to crash once, somewhere inside NetImmerse. At that point I was running fullscreen, with the 0018 release dll. I also tried a locally compiled copy in both windowed and fullscreen modes, plus a few tries without OBSE. Since the crash happened on the second time I guessed it would keep happening, so I didn't look in to it in detail when I had the chance, unfortunately.

edit: the crash occurred right as the body disappeared, fwiw

Yes, it happens 100% of the time when running OBSE 0018. It always happens at exactly the same point, when the body finishes rising from the ground and is enveloped in purple smoke, just as it disappears. The crash never occurs when running OBSE 0017 or vanilla Oblivion executable.

The "MannimarcoRevisited.esp" (the esp with chargen bug fix) has a script error - script: aaMannimarcoFixScript too much "endif"
Don't know if this is the reason for the ctd.

I believe that it's a different script that fires when you take the robe off of Mannimarco's body, specifically aMiltKOWRobesAbilityScript.

Apologies for a minor threadjack, but I want to point out that the CS Wiki's http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Category:User_Functions is pretty sparse. Share, people! Share! :D

Using
let svVar := $svText

should also result in two different strings.
I didn't know this - thanks :)

Yes. Make sure you follow the steam-specific installation instructions in the readme.

A user is using the GOTY edition and seeing this error upon launching: "You are using the 1.1.0.425 beta patch of Oblivion, please upgrade to 1.2.0.416."

Are you sure the user has installed the SI disc, and not only disc 1? I seem to recall that the SI disc must be installed too in order to get GOTY fully patched.

Thank you for the quick response! I will relay that.

Edit: The user reported that the Oblivion.exe file's version number is 1.2.0416. Does OBSE check anything else? I remember someone reported not being able to patch the game because of an old ReadMe once, but I do not know about OBSE's checks.

OBSE checks the file's checksum with a whitelist list to ensure compatibility.

The user no longer has that problem.

Thank you all for the quick replies!

Well i went and downloaded this and noticed something in the readme I didn't see in the previous version. I'm running steam so last time I tried installing this I followed the instructions on a youtube video since I learn easier visually instead of reading. Well reading the newst version i found out that I had installed OBSE for my Steam version of Oblivion wrong the last time so it wasn't even working. well this time I install it correct and when i go to start the game I get this po up asking to click on a town then I could toggle barrels window shutters and other stuff that i didn't see before. What mod could this be for? Only one i cold think of was Banansplit's better cities. There were a few other things that popped up saying it fixed things with other mods but I can't remember what they were exactly.

I do not understand the significance of this post, but, yes, the popup about the cities is a BC feature. A number of mods use OBSE to give extended debug and feedback info.

It seems sv_Set still causes console echo-ing, other functions are silent now though. :)

I guess i was stating that when i had downloaded the last patch 0017 I think, I had loaded it wrong so nothing worked. The readme file for 0018 seemed to have instructions for Steam so i was able to load it correct this time and I noticed newer options i didn't see before.

I've uploaded a WIP version of the http://www.truancyfactory.com/obse_function_index.html. It has over 150 functions listed but is far from complete. Just looking for feedback/suggestions/requests/etc. I have not had time to update the main page with the other information yet (re saved data, deprecation status, etc.). Sorry.

If anyone has any other suggestions regarding the main page I'd be happy to hear them as well.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the style information has been incorporated into each page so that they can be dl as a single file. Well, two files, actually. (The main documentation and the function index.)

Function request, a GetCallingScript to be used inside a User Function. Very handy when multiple mods may be calling your user function and you want special handling for certain mods (or something).

Console echoing ? Is this the >>getstage 20 type messages I get in the console ?? Is there any documentation on this ?

Maybe some kind of background highlighting - different row different shade, as you do it http://www.truancyfactory.com/obse_command_doc.html#Function_Syntax_Format - not easy to follow sometimes

Unfortunately, each row has to have markup indicating whether it is shaded or not. Every time a new function is added to the table, the markup on every row following that entry would have to be changed. I don't know of a way to do that via scripting (I'm not really a web page programmer), but I'll see what I can come up with.

Is there a search/replace option in Notepad++ that allows you to 'replace all' from the cursor location to the bottom of the document without touching the stuff above it? That would be a pretty easy fix.

You can highlight the desired section and then do Search & Replace with the Selection Only box checked...

Anyway, does anyone know if Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition works with OBSE's source code?

Why not pass that info as an argument to your function instead ?

It should be backward compatible, except for a couple of build options maybe (the /Wp64 switch comes to mind). Changes to the CRT libraries may however cause flux in runtime behavior, if I recall correctly. I don't really see any reason to shift to VS2010 personally - The only noticeable changes are the WPF UI, lambdas and Win 7 support for MFC (for working with native code that is).

IIRC, 2008 created errors so I'd venture that 2010 turns OBSE into a kitten that follows your cursor around.

Of what kind ? I'm don't recall having any serious issues with 2008 in the past.

I never really understood the purpose of lambdas...

Anyway, I asked not because I was "shifting" to VS2010, so much as I was having brief difficulty finding VS2005 again (but I found it so no matter).

Argh, now if only I could remember how the hell I got zlib working. That took forever the first time, too.
