I've played Crysis on maximum settings, and I still think Skyrim looks better.

Compare the trailers!! Photos can trick the eye.

Just. Compare. The. Trailers.

Oblivion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0AmyQJafnU

Skyrim: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjqsYzBrP-M&feature=related

To me it's freaking obvious. Skyrim looks 5 years better.

OMG.

Removed 'fluffy' features aside, the actual game turned out to be much more pleasant looking to the eyes compared to that awkward pile of crass... Thank goodness! (Was referring to Oblivion, obviously.)

Gee, there's not that much difference between the two games graphically speaking. If I never played these games before, or any games, and you showed me these screenshots, I wouldn't be able to tell you which one was made after the other because they both look the same. Even Skyrim's characters need tons of more work. They just look ever so slightly better than TESIV characters, but not by much. Well, I'm sure in 20 years time Bethesda will get there.

I think people are forgetting that they should compare the character models more to fallout than oblivion. That said, it's still r0x my s0x! :celebration:

What you guys gotta relies though is in the forest comparison. In the Skyrim screen it doesn't look like one of the bigger forests in the game. But in the Oblivion screen that is a pretty big forest, So you can't really compare them just yet.

Hey there people... after watch the great new official trailer, i grab some pics from the vid, and could not resist!

For those who criticized the Skyrim graphics so far, lets make some comparison with Oblivion and anolize the graphic improvements!

What do ya think? :celebration:

Seems like there's improvement in every department. Especially the landscapes, environments and animations.

Yeah, and the absence of said "fluff" makes it feel more like (everyone breathes in deep) Morrowind in a certain way.

I still think Witcher 2 will be best looking RPG of 2011 :whistling:

Probably but seeing as Witcher 2 isn't open world (it's a non-linear story driven 3rd person RPG) then more details can obviously be fit in.

And seeing as Skyrim still looks amazing for the most part in it's own unique way, it doesn't matter too much in my eyes ;)

I think both will look brilliant

There's a HUGE improvement in the character/monster graphics. As far as the environment goes it's an upgrade, but it's not as big as the character/monster one.

Remember though that these screenshots are taken on the crappy Xbox360. I'm sure they'll look quite a bit better on PC.

If PC version gets the same graphics as those in the trailer I will be disappointed. The graphics look good for a console game, but for a PC game it's not that mind blowing. It looks a great deal better than Oblivion though.

Those are unmodded oblivion pics with no Aniso filtering enabled though.

The characters in Skyrim look a lot better, but forests and foliage look like Gothic 3, and textures look like Quarls Texture Pack 3 + lod replacements.

Wait, WHAT? Those screenshots were taken on an Xbox 360?

How can a 360 render those graphics lol :P

No doubt that those screens are amazing, but in my opinion the Skyrim pictures and footage still felt more immersive than Witcher.
Witcher = polished. Skyrim = Mood/setting/feeling/immersion/etc. Just what I'm getting from what I've seen.

Secondly, OP, thanks for the side-by-sides! The improvement is staggering!

Ah the daily "a PC exclusive looks better than 360 footage" guy. Where would we be without your ignorance?

Also, the Witcher is incredibly linear for an open world RPG. It's kinda like the Fable/Dragon Age level of linearity. Skyrim is open to the max degree.

When put side-by-side, you can clearly see that Skyrim is far superior to Oblivion graphically. But I really love the new undead, they look so badass. I'll almost feel bad to slay something so beautiful! xD

The Witcher 2 is meant to be a lot more open world though, go where you want, explore what you want.

I generally dislike closed world / level based RPGs like NWN, but I did like DAO for its minor combat similarities to Baldur's Gate.

The demo for DA2 left me feeling trolled by Bioware though. So the Witcher 2, despite what people may think of it looks like it will be the best proper PC RPG of 2011 until Skyrim is released.

Uh, it's really not hard to realize the polycount is at least 2x on environmental assets and at least 1.5x on character assets. The resolutions are a good 2x-2.5x what Oblivion was for environmental assets and character assets are at least 1.75x. Particle effects are at least 2x what Oblivion had with LOD about 2-3x more noticeable. Animations are also FAR better than Oblivion and the facial features have much better proportion. I honestly don't know why some of you can't see this. Maybe it's time for a monitor upgrade to 1080p at least.

Cool, love the new character models, environment looks (no more smooth mountains), and towns. Well done Bethesda!

I remember feeling let down as soon as I stepped outside of the prison on the first day I got Oblivion (on release day)

My reaction was 'This doesnt look like the trailers, its so blurry and low resolution :('

The Lod textures in particular were horrible, even at the time Oblivion was released, but fortunately there were replacement textures available very shortly after release.

Thats the best thing about the ES games, how moddable they are and how active the modding community here is.
