Thing to remember is are those ob picks from the pc version or 360? The pc ob looked ALOT better then 360 version did.

To me skyrims graphics are wonderful I have no problem playing Morrowind or Oblivion, I still think they are great games which their GAMEPLAY makes them fantastic, Yes graphics matter to an extent and being an original xbox 360 owner to see that trailer is being run via that system is rather impressive, some games look a tad better but like people have posted this is a massive game handling a lot of tasks comparred to others. In all honesty some more features will be in the PC version but to me I have no complaint cause it looks better then its competition (if you can call it that i.e. two worlds 2 and dragon age 2) I think this is still in its beta testing when that trailer was shown they still have many months of changes to make and by E3 or some show in the near time future we will see Skyrim in a totally different light. It does however annoy me with the majority of PC owners moaning about specific parts of the graphics, the water I can agree can be better to me isn't game breaking by all means. I mean come on, we wouldn't all be sitting here waiting for Skyrim if we hated played Oblivion or Morrowind in the past cause the graphics were bad (which they wernt). Have faith and so far it's looking rather spectacular :).

Why are you people even trying to compare a game that has been finished and released to a game that isn't finished or released? Come back in November when you have the full version of Skyrim to do a proper anolysis on.

The mountains in the distance sure look a whole lot better, and so does the lighting. IMO, the most different screenshot was the one of the towns, Skyrim's town looks way better than Oblivion's, and I think the lighting has a part to play in that.

Generally in the video, the lighting looks great. Especially in the fall forest.

In this screenshot though, the lighting is... not that great at all.

Kinda reminds me of Oblivion's HDR there...

Oh wow! I find the environments are not THAT big of a difference, but the improvement of character models and buildings is staggering.

Actually, I think it's a major improvement. First of all, if I've watched the trailer correctly, trees and plants aren't 2D anymore. By that I mean that if you walk around a tree, the leaves and branches "follow" you, moving around with the camera. Flora in Skyrim looks like it's actually 3D. Secondly... the mountains. Oh my goodness, those mountains. Remember in Oblivion when you used to walk around and all of a sudden an exterior area changed and trees, buildings, whatever started to pop out nothing? And not to mention the ugly textures on far away mountains/terrain. I'm certain that we'll see some rocks/flora pop up in Skyrim again, but by looking at the trailer it seems that's going to be kept at a minimum. Just watch the end of the trailer when slaying the dragon and the camera moves towards that gorgeous view distance where the dragon flies away from those old ruins.

Indeed, I don't understand why there's inconsistent lighting. Some time ago there was a debate saying that there were no shadows in the Markarth Side screenshot, while shadows were clearly seen in the other screenshots, and all the screenshots were supposed to be from the Xbox 360. Maybe the sun's positioning might be causing that?

Not sure. But whatever it is Bethesda should make it more consistent. It definitely shouldn't look like that in the http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/520246-1298584608.jpg.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but the trailer was done on 360 and it is unclear if those oblivion pics are 360 or computer and if computer what its settings are. There is no doubt that those PC players with computers which are significantly better than 360s (just look at what the 360 has in it) will be able to play this game in a much better graphical state than 360 gamers. Not to mention any high quality texture mods and extensions of view distance.

Could have chosen more appropriate town comparisons. The Riverwood buildings are most like the IC waterfront. Cheydinhal or Leyawiin is probably closer to this. http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/1102/skyrim3.jpg

It wouldn't matter considering the graphics for xbox and pc are basically the same for oblivion, considering the 360 was just released.

There ARE shadows in the Markarth shot, underneath the shrubs. The building has no visible drop shadows because with the way the sun is positioned, it is almost directly above.
