Oblivion Steam CTD

Post » Tue Sep 28, 2010 10:47 am

I've recently purchased Oblivion Deluxe Edition on Steam, and are having frequent (2-30 minutes gameplay) CTD's without any errormessage but Win7's "The program has closed unexpectedly please wait while gathering info" blabla.

It is fresh install, with no mods except the deluxe edition ones that came with the game. I cannot update it (I am guessing the steam version is already up to date).

I'm using win7 ultimate on a Intel Core i5 3.20 ghz non-overclocked, with Nvidia GTX 285 non-overclocked with 266.58 drivers.

I have tried nuking the ini file, running with Bloom instead of HDR and lowering quality settings to high instead of ultra, and updating the graphic drivers.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Reset permissions on your steam folder, and all sub folders, such that UAC is turned off.

Thank you for the suggestion,

Disabled UAC altogether, removed read-only and applied full control to all users on Program Files\Steam and applied this to all child objects such that the permissions are re-written (I'm not sure if this is what you meant, but it should do the job?)

Still CTD'ing randomly :/ Got more?

That was exactly what I had in mind. :D

Post a dxdiag of the machine. You seem to have the hardware to run the game without any trouble at all......

Might also try backdating your video drivers to some that are Pre-400 series drivers..... newer is not always better.

Thanks a lot for your help, backdating to 191.07 seems to have resolved the issue. Unfortunate this has to be done in my opinion, I would think as they are still selling the game on steam they would fix a driver issue like this, the driver I had to install is from 2009... But nice to have it fixed nonetheless.
