[REL]Oblivion Style Vampires in Morrowind

Post » Sun Aug 12, 2012 2:59 pm

So, after a rough few days, I'm finally ready to release this. (For the record, I don't even know if anyone WANTS this, I did it for me, and figured I couldn't possibly be the only person who wanted something like this. So here we are.)

Mod goals:

Provide a lore-friendly vampire experience in Morrowind that's more in-line with later Elder Scrolls titles.

I know the "big three" vampire mods are quite popular, but for me, they seemed a little too lore-breaking, and a little too game-breaking. I also flat out don't like companion mods. I wanted, should I decide to play as a vampire in Morrowind, for that experience to be one where I could continue with the main story, and not only be stuck with a short list of "vampire quests" before having no choice but to be cured in order to keep playing.

Oblivion allows this. Skyrim allows this. For anyone coming back to Morrowind after playing those, vampirism in Morrowind is a sad joke, and not at all beneficial, and really just one big detriment to your playing experience.

This mod works to change vampirism to something more like Oblivion and Skyrim. Your disease will progress forward every 24 hours, increasing your stat bonuses, and also increasing the damage you take from fire and the sun. (The final stage is the exact same level of stat increase as a standard MW vampire. Don't worry, no game-breaking super-vamps here.)

The first three stages (just like Oblivion and Skyrim), no one will know what you are. You can be a stealthy vampire, going about your business, and no one has to be the wiser. Upon stage four, what you are is unmistakeable to the NPCs, and they will react accordingly to a vampire in their midst.

Feeding on living things will return your character to the first stage of vampirism, allowing you to blend in with the living again, but at the cost of your enhanced powers. (Again, just like Oblivion and Skyrim).

Compatibility issues for regular mods:

None, as far as I know.

Compatibility issues for vampire mods:

Probably a whole lot. I wouldn't even try running it with any other vampire mods. If you want to, go for it, but I'm not responsible if Vvardenfell explodes.

Known issues:

You cannot embark on vampire clan quests (or the vampire cure quest) unless you are starved for blood (stage four). Otherwise you will not be recognized as a vampire.

You will progress to stage 2 when you first wake up as a vampire (instead of stage 1). This only happens the very first time, and never again (as it has to do with transitioning from the 3 day "Porphyric Hemophilia" phase into vampirsm). Not a big deal, as far as I'm concerned. Definitely not worth fixing.

Questions and comments and all that are welcome. Feel free to be critical, too.

(I can't really find anywhere else to upload it, PES seems like it sort of fell apart since the last time I went there. Admittedly years ago.)

This looks good! The only reason I never got into playing a vampire in MW was because it pretty much breaks your regular game until you're cured. I'm definitely going to give this a try.

EDIT: I'm getting an "invalid filename" error on Nexus. The file doesn't appear to have an extension. I realize it's a small file, but making it into an archive is still a good idea.

Great to hear! Yeah, just as soon as the standard Nexus "wait for my file to really exist" bit is over, you'll be able to grab it. :D I knew I couldn't be the only person who might actually want this mod. :P
