[RELz] Oblivion XP

This comment is the same as on tesnexus, but maybe i'm getting a faster reply here.

I can't get the mod working. When I installed the 4.1.5 OMOD version my oblivion crashed before the main menu. I'm using Darn UI, I used the Darn UI version of the mod. I have OBSE 17b, tried with even the 18beta4 but also crashed. First I tried to edit the ini file a little but after i changed every setting back to normal still crashed. I'm using FCOM, TIE, Deadly reflex and a ton of other mods and wyre bash. Even tried to use BOSS. After I uninstalled it, and install drak ui again, i can go to the main menu but not further. The buttons aren't working. Any of them:( Before this mod everything was fine. Help please!
When I installed this mod, in the same time I installed the mod SPAWN, first I tought that mod was the culprit, but I uninstalled it, so it must be the Oblivion XP.

OBMM only shows one incompability with green. It's abandoned mine, form ID 00015C3D. Mods conflicting: UOP, OOO, MidasSpell, Origin of the mages guild, Let there be darkness, CLS Sailboats COBL.

TN/xXAequitasXx,

I just miss getting "bonus" skills, I guess. :) Ones that basically level themselves up (just by running around, picking up ingredients, etc). About the only way I can think of to compensate is give myself then normal amount (or slightly less) to use on my "real" skills and then some extra to use on these ones (the ones that would max themselves out if I were playing vanilla) and then not allow myself to cheat by using the extra points on the normal skills.

It's sort of possible to "cheat" a little with ObXP, too, or at least level slightly artificially, by going to First Edition and reading every book in the place. :) That's an easy level right there if you do it right out of the Imperial Sewers.

I'm still conflicted as to what I want to try, so I'll probably start a few games using different levelers and a few using ObXP at its default and a few with my weird modifications (I definitely can't do the math stuff that you guys can--makes my head explode... uh.. 100x faster than yours :)

There will always be exploits to a system, basically it comes down to self control. Also, the easier settings to adjust that would interest you (extra SP and Attribute points) are easy, easy changes (I actually have it set up to give me 45 SP per level rather than the default 36).

Honestly, whether you want to use Oblivion XP depends on your play style and whether you prefer the natural levelers (nGCD for example) or something more along the lines of a "traditional" RPG (or, like me, just want a change).

I noticed something when using this mod with CDM-Character Generation Overhaul. If I used CDM-CGO to get myself to start at level 5, I'd wind up with enough XP to level up, and allocate all ym stats for Oblivion XP. Any higher, though, and I'd have to do some fighting first to level up first, then I'd have to allocate the stats.

It's annoying, yeah, sure. However, what really struck me was the compatibility between the two. They were obviously not really meant to be used together, but the seamlessness in which they work together is utterly amazing. I was surprised at how they worked together.

Anyways, just thought I'd point that out.

Crashing before the main menu means 1) you have a missing .esm or 2) your UI is not installed correctly. In the case of Oblivion XP, it's most likely 2). So please try the following (preferably using OBMM):

1. Uninstall your UI.
2. Uninstall Oblivion XP.
3. Check to see if Oblivion starts now. Make a new clean savegame.
4. Re-install DarNified UI OMOD.
5. Re-install Oblivion XP OMOD.
6. Start Oblivion and load the savegame made in step 3.

That should fix things.


Sorry for my absense/unresponsiveness the last week or so, I'm really busy IRL atm. I should be back to more active modding around the end of the week (thursday or so).

Hello,

Thanks for this mod - I'm a huge fan. The only problem I've had with it is with the Cowl of Nocturnal. It equips fine, but when I unequip it, I get some thousands of XP (last time I tried I got 9000) due to gaining renown. Any ideas?

What version of OB XP are you using? That issue was supposed to have been fixed, so make sure you have the latest version.

Do a clean save and then reinstall the mod. Delete any related ObXP files before doing so. That said, the OMOD version is most ideal for this.

My savegame was a clean save, and I don't use OBMM anymore. (Just to convert omods to 7zip). ObXP is installed correctly.

Could you please try also deleting the .obse co-save files (same name as your savegame file)? And also, what is the size of the .obse co-saves?

I have noted that for reasons unclear, every once in a blue moon on receiving enough XP to level up, this mod gets stuck with the variable obxpmain.levelupstage at 1. The result is that the level-up menu is broken - the "Click to level up" button is still active on the stats page, but clicking it does nothing. Console forcing levelupstage to 0 or 2 fixes it, but then I get double the attribute and skill points (since it seems that those are awarded at levelupstage 1). Again, I can console force these numbers back to normal, so it's not game-breaking but still an issue.

I'm trying to determine what circumstances cause this to happen, but no luck so far. But it *seems* like it happens if XP is awarded for a miscellaneous action or quest at the same time as a messagebox popup happens for whatever reason. This may just be coincidental, though.

Anyway, thought I'd mention it in case anyone else has ever had the "click to level up" button mysteriously unresponsive...

To verify that the bloating is coming from ObXP, I have deleted .obse file and made a clean save without ObXP, and quicksaved a dozen times. No such records. Then I reactivated ObXP and quicksaved a dozen times. The records reappeared.

That's very very strange indeed. Did it happen with OBSE v17 as well?

It's normal to have ObXP store data, which may be just what you're seeing - it's not normal when that data constantly keeps growing :) How big is your co-save file that has the supposed bloating?

It was 1.3mb when I was around lvl 10. Then I made a clean save to reset the co-save. Now I'm lvl 16, and it's 630kb and growing.

Definitely bloating then. Do you remember if this happened to your game in v0017 or v0018-b1/2/3 as well?

IIRC ObXP 4.1.5 with obse v17 had no such problem. I didn't try it with v18b1/2/3, but I'll test it if I can find older versions of obse.

edit: Tested it with older versions of obse v18.
v18b1 doesn't work (game freezes). b2/b3 both had same issue as b4.

SF remember when it happened to me with 4.1.3?

I STILL have not figured out why it did that. There is something that will make it reoccur. I haven't had the scandelay bug since 4.1.3.

Both the savegame bloating and the stuttering/performance issues are related to the fact ObXP does everything in Oblivion Script, which is far from optimal, and can be very cryptic to debug. Since I'm going to be working on moving everything over to C++ in the form of an OBSE plugin (.dll), I'll have full control over both these aspects of the mod and so if all goes according to plan, they shouldn't be a problem in future versions.

Anyhow, from tonight onwards I'll once again have time to work on Oblivion XP, so stay tuned. Also, any ideas you may have for additional features and/or tweaks are most welcome :)

The main things I'll be working on are:

- adding some overdue support for UIs other than Vanilla / DarN / DarkUId DarN (this I'll probably tackle first and release before moving to the next points)
- moving all the ObXP code to C++ for performance optimization, better customization and better general control over what goes on behind the scenes
- making the mod more flexible so that variations on the core mechanisms of the mod can be made easier
- creating an ObXP-tweak application that will function as an optional, more visual way to change ObXP settings (ideas for what this should include are most welcome)
