Oblivion in the real world

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:53 pm

So Petrol in the UK is extortionately priced at the moment.

I was driving to Bournemouth earlier, and passed a garage selling for 129.99 a litre, and I said to myself:

"A good price"... and before I knew it, I also added "... for a good customer."

Made me chuckle for a little while...

... and also made me wonder about whether other Forumites have found themselves quoting OB in the "real" world??

I have quoted Oblivion lots of times. The one you mentioned is one and whenever I see a doctor I always think "You have the hands, of a healer" :D

There are more, I just can′t remember them now :sadvaultboy:

Edit: Just remembered one. Whenever I see someone at a distance I think to myself; "I see you, hello!"

I scream, "For Kvatch!" when my son and I wrestle. Since he plays Oblivion too, we both laugh... and then attack.

Not really in real life, but i sometimes quote oblivion when playing Day of Defeat Source with my friends. I run into a building with an enemy and say "You're going to die in here!"

I say "Good to know." quite often, and "No doubt." not exactly original lines from Oblivion, of course, but I mostly say them becaue of Oblivion and do so in pretty much the exact same tone as they're used in the game.

not a quote, but disturbingly, after the first couple of solid weeks playing obliv on release, I went to the supermarket with a mate, and exclaimed at seeing a sign waving about - 'check out the physics on that!'. Never quite lived that down tbh

I wonder what their reactions are... I think, if I can be daring enough, I might try it sometime just to see what they say...

Oh it's hilarious. Someone at college annoyed me the other day and I called him a "n'wah" quite vehemently. Everyone just looked at me like "wtf?".

My friends are regularly subjected to "I'm watching you...scum.", but these are both Morrowind quotes. I've never really quoted Oblivion, and I'm not entirely sure why.

So, does anyone know exactly what these words are supposed to mean? I'd love to call someone a s'wit sometime, but would it be too mean, even though they wouldn't know what I'm talking about? Is a s'wit like "b*stard" or something a little worse? And what is "n'wah"?

Actually, I find it amusing to use Shakespearean insults (there's a book about it, actually, and I love it...). Most people are completely baffled, and it's funny to see.

Oh these are all great - so glad it's not just me!

I'm going to try 'By the Nine' this week instead of OMG!

Isn't s'wit like Twit? - so an idiot, rather than a bastard?

Whenever somebody says "interesting..." around me, I immediately follow it up with "now before I stamp these papers, make sure this information is correct". Not really Oblivion, but still. :P I get some straaange looks, but it's an effective way of finding like-minded people, if someone realizes what I'm talking about.

And I call people n'wahs and s'wits almost unconsciously. But that's mostly people who know where those insults are from. :D

Oh, that would make more sense I suppose. But I still don't know what n'wah is supposed to be, and exactly in what context it should be used. Any ideas??

'By the Nine' is good, but more often I've used 'By Sheogorath!' or 'By the Madgod!' but that's because I'm a Shivering Isles addict

Oh is that all it means? Everyone had it sounding like it was something inappropriate. :swear: Well, I'm sure I can still find a use for it in RL. I love confusing people with words... :disco:

In Morrowind, that is a pretty serious insult. It is the same as calling someone scum.

As Subrosa mentions, "n'wah" is a pretty serious insult in Morrowind. "S'wit" I feel is more "idiot".

I got my friends with a good one last night when everyone was a bit drunk. I came out with "By the grace of Mara!" when I stubbed my toe. Again with the odd looks.

'By Azura!' and 'By the Nine Divines!' are quite often exclamations when I am shocked

I never thought of using Oblivion quotes in real life besides "Stop right there criminal scum". I recently began saying sod instead of the f word because of dragon age and I once said Maker instead of God because of too much dragon age. I think I'm going to now say Azura or use Nine Divines. Maybe when my friend comes over and steals a can of my energy drinks I may say. "By the Nine Divines, Pickpocket! pickpocket! guard your purses!!" Or I could sneak up on him and say, "Break the law on my watch will yeah? I will be confiscating your stolen goods.." Still think the best possible line is "Stop right there criminal scum."
