[ALPHA/Relz] Oblivion type physics?in Morrowind

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:59 am

Gosh! you GHF folks are absolutely awesome!
When I ran Morrowind Physics Engine.exe it ran fine - so you can imagine how eagerly I fired up Mw. At first, there wasn't much notable difference (I started a new game just to be on the safe side). You said you wanted any bug reported - but so far I have encountered only one:

In the Census and Excise Office you are supposed to take a knife that is stuck in a table (the press "F" to equip thingy). Well, with MPE engaged, you can not pull the knife out of the table any more. Instead, I moved the entire table around! - maybe the friction value for the knife is an order of magnitude too high?

But when I left Seyda Neen, MPE did truely start to shine!
Tarhiel did his usual skydive...but by Vivec! this time he left a crater! :shocking:

Sorry - I have to go back to playing. I wonder what happens if I cast a fireball on that wooden shack over there... :flamethrower:

Wow, I've not seen that happen before. It is kind of a neat effect though...I'm going to see how we can take advantage of it. This is what I love about alpha/beta testing: unanticipated bugs that can become features! (Once we get it to behave properly of course!)

Wow! The alpha was amazing to see in progress, but I have a few bugs to report (maybe someone else can reproduce them):

1) Wind stopped affecting trees every time I entered an interior and then returned back outside. (it'd be neat if you could tie the animated grass from MGE to the wind impact code, though!)

We do plan to do that once the wind is working correctly. I decided it would be best to focus on just banners and trees first before we get to smaller things. Not entirely sure if it is possible though to be honest since the MGE grass isn't made of actual meshes. Might have to consult with peachy a bit on that one when it comes time to work on it.

2) I got a couple of script errors while attempting to pick up a falling sword. Suggest encapsulating that part of the code with something to prevent Activate until it has hit the ground.

Good idea. I'll see that it's added to the list.

3) Sometimes NPCs are spontaneously thrown up into the air. Have not been able to discover any particular trigger, yet.

Oops...that's my bad. :hehe: Early tests that apparently weren't cleaned out all the way. The very first bit of physics to ever enter the world of Morrowind was set to trigger after my character took ten steps in an exterior cell. It so happened that my test character is in Seyda Need. When it triggered, it found the first "living" reference and shot it up into the air. Turns out it was Fargoth. It was like Tarhiel all over again. Except that we still haven't (and am not entirely sure if will ever) have the AI distance triggers working properly. About half-way down in his fall he started saying "I have a feeling you and I are going to be very close."

Thanks for the reports guys!

Edit: Oh, and for the record, when I posted these announcements at GHF and PES about this, it wasn't yet April. The thought didn't even really cross my mind how this all would appear.....

It is improved with super glue physics. Don't worry about decorations.

I am speechless, truely...Speechless. Even though running MWSE + MGE AND the MPE is very taxing on my system (Had to get uncheck all of my other mods just to this it out), the effects were amazing! I started a new game to test this out, and watching the plates fly out of the table when I got the Character Gen dagger was just astounding. :o
Spectacular work guys! We're entering a new era of modding with this! :D

Can somebody please upload a video? Or even a screenhot? I'll definitely check this out as soon as I'm done with my exams, but I became so intrigued that I really need to see this in action NOW!

The mod doesn't work. :(

It spits out "Incorrect language/patch version". German Oblivion seems to be a no-no.
Guess I'll have to buy the English Oblivion GotY for this. I thought you guys only extracted data from the meshes?

So far it is a good start, but unsurprisingly, a bit buggy.
First thing I noticed is that when I am using doors my character is rather violently jerked to the side. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z285/Morrowquin/Physicsdoor.jpg It seems to just be cosmetic so far, as I don't seem to be losing any hit points or anything. This happens both entering and exiting doors. This is on a new game, (if that matters) as you can see by the outfit. Kinda strange but I can live with it I suppose. My copy of Oblivion is a full version (no expansions) that came bundled with a graphics card. Not sure of version number. All external programs are latest releases (MWE 1.6 dev version, etc.)

Nextly, I am running BB 2.2 (?) newest one anyway, nvde version. When I run the physics engine, all Orc females now have some sort of dark, untextured underwear on. Just black smudges really. Is this a little design joke? Cute if it is. Be better with a texture though at least.

So far I like it, though I am really going to have to get used to knocking crap over.

I get that as well :/ I haven't noticed the female Orcs though. Then again, I'm not into undressing Orcs :P

Cliff Racer ragdoll corpses! YES! I tested shooting them with an uber bow and they just fell out of the sky, and flopped helplessly down the mountain! WUT.

Sorry, new issue.

Started a new game to see if the "door yank" would go away. Ran a script that I use to test mods out. One of the things it does is increases my strength by...a lot. Went to grab the chargen dagger and this is what happened. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z285/Morrowquin/Physics.jpg

You can see the lockpick did not actually move. Also, the plate with crab meat and a few other things fell straight down, yet other things were thrown quite violently. Is this because of my testscript str increase? I know things initialize by taking steps outside, but the walk from the prison ship to the office should be enough, right?

Anyway, again livable, but thought you might want to know.

Ahhh :( I don't have Oblivion.

So a future release will maybe not require oblivion?

I seem to be having difficulties with the Havok properties on Throwing Stars and Crossbow Bolts. For some reason, they don't seem to have imported properly.

SG, calling the mod a joke simply because you were unable to get it to work is a very mean thing to do :shakehead: Anyway, do you have Oblivion installed? And MGE + MWSE?

SG, make sure you have all the required programs, and just follow the instructions in the readme. It's a little complicated, but you'll get there.
