Bug report: It's possible to get infinite EXP by killing your own conjured creatures (I use Less Annoying Magic Experience).


I need more detail. I kill my own summons all the time - no issue. I love to use 'em for soul trapping :) Are you running 4.1.8? If not, upgrade to 4.1.8.

I don't think that is necessarily a bug. It is either intended to work that way or, more than likely a overlooked gameplay issue in the mod. I mean, vanilla oblivion was the same way. You could attack your summons and gain xp for it. It's just a issue of self-control :)

As samuro_ said, that's not a bug :) As far as Oblivion XP is concerned, it's just another critter that you've killed. Doesn't matter if you're using LAME, Supreme Magicka or vanilla. You will also get more points if you soul trap them before killing them :wink:

Basically I don't consider this a serious enough issue to try to code around. You also get the experience points if you kill a conjurer's summoned creature before killing the conjurer - and a lot of players want it that way. So I would have to figure out that it's the player's summoned creature specifically and not award the points. It's an exploit that can be easily avoided, should you choose to do so.

I thought you might be referring to the truly infinite experience points that you could get with the original Ob XP with certain summoned creatures. Basically one of the magic overhauls (Midas Magic?) didn't assign a level to the summoned creatures, so it would make a mess when you killed the creature when running Ob XP. That's why I asked about which version you were running - I fixed that bug :)

In vanilla Oblivion you can use summoned creatures to improve your skills, like samuro_ mentioned. So basically it's the same with Oblivion XP.

Hey guys, got a big issue with this. I installed FCOM with no major problems, but found it really hard and tried installing Oblivion XP levelling to help smooth it out a bit, plus the concept sounds cool.

I installed using the OMOD version, and used the OMOD conversion data to make an OMOD for the newest update. (I had the problem before I updated though)

My problem is that, first of all when I installed, it didnt allow me to redistribute my points and reset my attributes to default even though I clicked yes. I figured, no big deal, and just went on. When I finally got to level up, my bar went green and everything, but clicking the level up button did nothing, it just quit my menu screen back to gameplay without changing anything, my xp bar doesn't change and I can't level up.

I'm using Dark Darni UI and FCOM of course.

Could FCOM slow skill levelling be causing problems? or the stealth overhaul?

One more thing btw, whenever I start a new game, whatever button I have assigned to run (i.e. left shift) freezes my character in place and takes away the hud instead, this has happened ever since I installed OBSE. Any help with any of these would be great, but the main thing is levelling! Thanks a lot!

Which verison of Oblivion XP are you using? Which version of OBSE? If you are running the Steam version of the game, did you enable the Steam in-game community (you have to do that to get OBSE to load properly)? The problems you describe are because Oblivion XP isn't initializing properly.

Also, I suggest you use BOSS to sort that LO. Oblivion XP shouldn't load after your bash patch, it should be higher in your LO than that.

I thought I did use BOSS to laod it, I'll try again.

I'm using the newest version of both, and I'm not using the steam version, good old disc based.

I used the omod version of OBXP 415, and then updated using OBXP 418. I didn't uninstall, but even before I updated I was having the problem.

OBSE is 0019

Edit - Just did BOSS again and made sure it reordered properly, gonna give it a go again, will report back soon.

Nope, reordering didn't work.

Would it be worth trying to reinstall everything including dark darn UI? Maybe there's a conflict somewhere, though I used omod for both so I don't think there should be.

Uninstall and try to re-install. If you don't uninstall first, OBMM may not replace the menus properly. You need to follow the upgrade instructions in the downloaded version of the readme to make sure OBMM replaces everything properly.

With OBSE, make sure you're using 19b. There is a nasty bug in the initial release of 19 that caused a lot of trouble. The link to OBSE is in the opening post of this thread if you need it.

If it still doesn't work after reinstalling and possibly upgrading your copy of OBSE, please post the contents of your obse.log file in spoiler tags.

Ok, I uninstalled OBSE completely, as well as all OBSE mods. Installed Darnified Dark UI, which worked fine on it's own.

I then installed OBSE, which also worked fine on it's own (as in it launched the game properly)

I installed OBXP 418 and I still have the same problem, can't level up.

No, there won't be a reference to Ob XP, so that's fine. Are you running Win 7? If you're running Win 7, or even Vista, we really recommend you install outside of Program Files. Program Files is a protected directory and it won't allow programs to write changes there. The Oblivion XP menus are changed dynamically, so the OS might be the problem here.

I recommend you reinstall Oblivion to a directory like C:\Games. You can reuse your saved games, so backup the Oblivion folder in My Games first. You might even be able to move your data directory, so back that up before uninstalling Oblivion.

It sounds like you've done everything else, so I really think you're running into UAC issues here. You installed your UI first, then Oblivion XP. When you installed Ob XP, I'm assuming you selected DarkUId DarN as the UI when it prompted you during the installation. If you followed those steps, then it must be the UAC preventing the menu from being generated.

I don't see anything in your load list that would be a problem. I guess one last check would be to open the console after your game has loaded and see if there are any error messages listed there, but I really think it's the UAC, as I said.

I am indeed running Windows 7, But I have UAC disabled, so it shouldn't be the cause of the issue right? Or is this slightly different to the constant messages it brings up?

Yeah, I was going to suggest that you disable UAC, but I didn't because I don't suggest that to people in general (don't know their expertise with computers etc) and quite frankly, I wasn't sure it would help. I also have UAC disabled, but I notice that I still need to run certain things as administrator. I'm also running Win 7 and Dark UI'd Darn. I'm not running FCOM, but I know there are a lot of Ob XP players that are.

Ok, I have one last thing you can try before going through a reinstallation. Right-click on oblivion.exe and change the compatibility settings so that it runs as administrator. You should probably do the same thing to the shortcut that runs the OBSE loader for starting the game. Let's see if that helps. You will also need to change the Oblivion game folder so that your specific user account has full privileges. If you can't do that, then you will have to move Oblivion.

I know that there are a lot of players that have trouble until they move the Oblivion installation. Basically mods need to make changes to their files, and Windows does its best to prevent that when the program is installed to a protected area. I guess stuff installed to program files isn't supposed to be altered, and if it was just the executable that was stored there, that would be true. Unfortunately modded Oblivion also includes a lot of dynamic files, which really shouldn't be in the same folder as the executable, but that's the way Beth designed it. I wonder what they're going to do with Skyrim?...

I pretty much use OBXP exclusively now and I'm looking forward to your additions. Definitely liking the mod so far, and haven't had any issues [well, my Minimap exploded, but I just re-installed it with the OBXP option and everything's fine now]. If I get into the modding section of Oblivion, I'll certainly toss in the OBXP quest markers. I'm already considering my options... The more I play my modded game [and the more my load list grows... it's getting a bit absurd] and see what can be done, the more inspired I become.

Great! Glad to hear it. :) I will be coming out with a couple more updates, when I manage to extricate myself from another mod I got involved with...

Ah. I've got everything like default. Except changed the mastery levels, Changed attributes to 15 per level, which I'll probably switch down to 10. << I like multiples of 5. OCD yay. My skill points are set to 90 per level. And I have it in specialist mode. So for a stealth class, stealth skills cost 2-3 points. And non-specialized combat skills are 4 and stuff. Think I might drop down the skill points too.

Also. I don't really understand how AVuncapper does it. I'm good at math. But I don't feel like plugging in and checking things when they could be explained somewhat easily. Also. Attributes over 100, helpful or not?

If left alone, everything is vanilla. Again, the mod in the link is an INI script that edits the AVUncapper example plugin. :) So, less overhead by manually adjusting the values. The INI just makes it easier for those of us without the math skills...me being one. I have been using Andalaybay's updated OBXP along with AVUncapper since both were released. Only thing I request is XP for UV kills, but Ima good I get XP from DR5 and that's coool. :toughninja:

Hahaha - there you are! Ok, the issue with Unnecessary Violence is that it doesn't appear to update the kills statistic. Oblivion XP relies on two miscellaneous stats to detect kills: 5 (creatures killed) and 6 (NPC's killed). UV's kills do not update these stats. Now you can force this, which is how I fixed the poison kills in Ob XP, but UV doesn't do this. I've contacted Hex_off (last October) about this but he hasn't been around, so this remains an outstanding bug. I'm not even sure I could do a patch for it because I suspect that I would have to override most of UV's killing scripts. So I suggest people use DR 5 or 6 and leave UV until Hex returns and we can get this fixed. If he doesn't return, then I may look at trying to fix this, but I admit I am really busy and this is way down on my to-do list. I do have it in the back of my mind and will squeeze it in if I have time before Skyrim is released - that's assuming that this is something I could fix with a patch. :)

That's the old version. Could you upgrade to the new version, please? Just click on my sig for the opening post, with the link to the download. Also, be sure to follow the upgrade instructions in the downloaded version of the readme - the ini file has changed and there are some UI changes, so you need to follow the instructions to get it installed properly.

I get the message on the top screen Oblivion XP is running (or something like this) and on the gold rectangle I can see that I'm running version 4.18


WAIT : what is the old version ? mine or thatone I'm looking for with the experience X/Y ?
