[RELz] Oblivion XP Update - Thread 3

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 3:12 am

Dragar the half-orc, you need to roll d20...save vs. willpower or burst into euphoric dancing until your next turn...Elingwin the elf, you've rolled a 1 to hit; your attack hits Dragar your companion and knocks him prone. All enemies in 5 squares get combat advantage....

 I just award the points - I let the engine decide on the hits and misses! Sounds like somebody was a dungeon master back in the day :)

Ah, those were the days. Keep up the wonderful work, Andalaybay!

Thanks!

Ok, all development on the new version is done. I've also done most of the testing. Kyoma is hoping to release a new version of MenuQue in a few days and I'm going to wait for that. It will allow me to use the strings.xml file without overwriting your strings.xml (basically it will take a custom strings file and tack it on to the existing strings file).

Thanks for Phitt, Klaus, Amadaun, samuro_ and Tatts4Life for helping to test. Also thanks to TheNiceOne and Kyoma for their help with the menus and HUD.

Hopefully the new version will be out in a week.

My have has just randomly spazzed out on me - one of my saves died, so I reverted to a backup and now I can't log in without character getting infinite amounts of XP. I can go into the levelling window to select stats, etc. but I can't actually select anything - it keeps sending them into the negative. Any ideas? I tried disabling and re-enabling last time this happened to me (when I played last, a few months ago) and it only ended up being a temporary fix. (I think it might have something to do with the Active Inventory spell that I downloaded to access companion inventories, because it was when I installed that that it spazzed out, I've since removed the mod, but still spazzing).

I would just try uninstalling and reinstalling Oblivion XP. At this point I don't think you need a clean save. Just uninstall using BAIN or OBMM and then reinstall using one of those tools. It sounds like one of the menus got replaced when you installed that other mod. When you removed the other mod, the menu is gone altogether and Ob XP is having a hissy fit. You can't just disable - you need to uninstall so that BAIN or OBMM remove all the files and registers that they are gone. Then when you reinstall, BAIN or OBMM will copy all the files back over again. If you are using OBMM, exit OBMM after uninstalling because it doesn't actually do any updates until you exit. Then start OBMM again and reinstall.

If it still doesn't behave after doing that, then you will need a clean save. Uninstall Ob XP, load up your game, save it without Oblivion XP, exit, reinstall and then load up the clean save. Unfortunately with this method you might lose some progress.

Also, the new version will be released within a day or two :)

I've deleted the Active Inventory mod, and re-started with Oblivion XP via a Clean Save, and it seems to be working fine. The last time I played, I didn't notice that the Active Inventory mod was the issue.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17497

Is the mod that messed it up for me, if you're interested. I know a lot of people use both mods, I would be surprised if I'm the only one with the problem.

Glad you got it sorted. I've never heard of Active Inventory before, so I guess nobody has combined it with Ob XP before. I'll check it out at some point and see what's up.

4.1.9 has been released!

The new version is finally out! As promised it includes a HUD overhaul. The progress bar now matches the other status bars. I have also added support for Dark UI.

This version also introduces a new skill point cost progression system. Basically it will cost more to increase a skill beyond Journeyman level, with extra costs being incurred at Expert and Master level as well. Also skill increases have been capped at five.

The Skill Perk message boxes have been restored. Now when you increase a skill to the next level of mastery, a message box will pop-up describing the new perk.

Also, you can now disable Oblivion XP's control of your training sessions and/or the training costs.

Lastly, all the messages and menu text have been moved to a custom file called ObXP_strings.xml. As a result, all you need to do to translate Oblivion XP into another language is to translate the ObXP_strings.xml file. Furthermore, once a translation is done, it will remain usable with future versions of Oblivion XP. Translators will only need to release the ObXP_strings file, they don't need to release the whole mod. Languages like Japanese will still require that the mod itself be changed because the language syntax does not match English sentence structure.

In fact, FatalIllusion has already done an Italian translation! You can find the Italian strings file on the Nexus download page.

All the new settings are configurable in the ini file.

Also this version now requires OBSE 20 Beta 5 and MenuQue version 8!

Yes, this has been confirmed. There is a bug in MenuQue that is preventing you from entering a character name during character creation.

Work-around for now:

If you don't need MenuQue at all, temporarily rename the dll in your OBSE\Plugins folder. Deactivate Oblivion XP. Start a new game and create your character. Save after creating your character and exit. Rename MenuQue back to OBSE_Kyoma_MenuQue.dll. Reactivate Oblivion XP. Go play!

If you need MenuQue for another mod, then install an older version until you're done with character creation. You will still have to deactivate Oblivion XP. After you have created your character, reinstall MQ 8 and activate Oblivion XP.

Sorry about this. I'm sure Kyoma will have a fix out shortly. It's the middle of the night in his part of the world right now, so we'll have to wait until tomorrow.

I'm going to do some more testing to make sure that other menus that require something being named don't have the same problem. **crosses fingers**

Ok, I just tested the naming by creating a potion and giving it a new name - that worked fine. So hopefully the issue is limited to the character creation menu.

I have played several hours with the new release of Ob XP and MenuQue (I got the new version a few days ago) and I didn't run into any issues.

kingsheart: thanks for the support. You should be good to go now :)

Pretty much the only thing that is preventing me from trying this out is the lack of compatibility with other mods. I play with a lot of them, so it is an issue. But then as I think about it...and look at the list of supported mods ... I have a couple of questions that did not stand out in the readme.

I assume that kills and small checks like lockpicking will still work with mod added content - but is there any other concerns?

I assume that one thing that would be desired is XP from completing quests, but then you don't get that from Oblivion either, so what does the compatibility for something like Kragenir do?

Sorry if I'm way out of touch with this - I've not followed closely.
