I've been running Oblivion fine the past few years, no problems or anything at all, but when i uninstalled and reinstalled the game automatically crashes when i start it up. It goes into the game just fine, but it crashes halfway through the "bethesta a zenimark company" or whatever. the install is fresh, no patches or extra data files installed, and it seems that a lot of people are having these problems, but is it because i uninstalled/reinstalled too much, or is it something else?

Try deleting the .ini file in your My Documents\My Games\Oblivion folder....it is the configuration file named Oblivion. Delete it, then refire up the game so a new one gets generated...see if there are any improvements then.
