Can"t get Oblivion to launch after install. Using Windows 7 Ultimate and a Dell Precision M4400 with an Nvidia Quadro FX 1700M graphics card

You may need to uninstall the Quadro drivers in favor of drivers for Geforce cards. A quadro is a production card, once of Medium level performance (about four years ago now), that runs with drivers optimized for developing new graphics, not for displaying them. As such, it has more trouble with games than it should, and using the more ordinary drivers may solve the problem.

You really haven't told us much, though, so that's a best guess only.
