Oblivion won't run

It just sound like you are missing the textures for the mystic elf. Probably Rens? If there is an esp file then it points to where it needs to go to get textures. So whatever happend to cause your charater to go invisible needs to be found. The save are only that, the state of the game. You need the actual files in the data folder. You can look at your save file in wry bash (in the saves tab) to see things about it.

You can go back on saves until you find one that works with the files you have installed but it will not find what you are missing for after the problem started.

However, the save will show all the esp files that it used thus at least showing what mods were installed but not mods that only had textures. (which looks like it may be the problem). Look at you old backup up oblivion folder. in the obmm directory there is the mods directory where all the omods are. Perhaps you are missing an omod of textures?

I found a Omod with retextures of the HGEC body, I tried install that, but didn't work. I then found Beautyfull People, which I think that save had, I also saw some Ren files within them, so I just added the mod, also added a texture replacer for the Mystic Elf race, but I think that's basicaly for the face, and that didn't work either. Also tried reinstalling HGEC and the HGEC retexture with no results.

So it all comes down to the body texture for the mystic elf.

I assume the goal is to bring the character over with their items and level to the newly installed Oblivion? So fixing the textute is the only option.

If not and you only want the face, then you already have that.

Here is a thought.

WARNING: Using showracemenu will reset all of your skills to their default initial settings. (If you edit your race, instead of clicking "done" when you are done, leave the race menu open with the console up and save your game. When you reload it your race/looks will be changed like you wanted them to be and your skills will not be reset.) Using this command while wearing bound items may crash the game.

With tha in mind:
What if you bring over the character you want from the save. You now have missing textures.
In game go to console and showracemenu. This will bring up the race screen.
Change to a standard race like wood elf. When done, do not click Done button! leave everything open and save the game (doing this will not reset your skill stats you earned).
Quit oblivion and start again. Open the save you made and you should have a working character from the original save with all items and quests and things.
Do another save of this new character.

Now repeat the process, in console showracemenu.
Change the character to the mystic elf or whatever race you had that now works with the textures you have. Do not click Done, leave everything open and save the game.
Quit Oblivion and then start Oblivion loading the save you just made with your mystic elf. The textures should show up hopefully.
Save that.
In Wrye import the face from the old good save you had that you want.

I think this might work and may be worth a try.

Your a genious :)

Iv'e been working with showracemenu before, when I wanted to perfect the outlooks after playing and having seen the face textures in many light settings.

I will try this when I'm finished at work^^

I have now tried typing showracemenu in the console. But that only gave me a CTD, I am sure it works on the other saves, so there must be something wrong with that particular save. I must say that everything works fine when starting a new save, the Ren textures works fine, for the Mystic Elf and everything.

I may also add that, when entering combat on the corrupt save, I also get a CTD, it looks like the CTD occurs when an enemie's AI notices me and goes for attack, that doesn't happen on other saves.

I will also now just try too import the face textures from the save, and use it on the same save, too see if at least the facial textures can be fixed. But there's still these others problems like body texture and the armor still showing when unequipped.

Edit: I tried importing the face, but it didn't work, still wouldn't show.

OK let's look at this another way:

Do you get a CTD on showracemenu if you start a new game?

If you have the original Oblivion folder backud up you can do this:

Copy the current Oblivion folder to another location for backup.
Delete the oblivion folder.
Copy the old Oblivion folder.
Start Oblivion. Load the last old save that had the problems.
The game should load but you have the missing textures.
Now in console coc testinghall
This gets you to a safe place. Save the game. This should give you a clean save.
Now do the process again (you could probably skip backing up the old oblivion folder since you already have a backup) by deleting the oblivion folder.
Copy the new Oblivion folder that you backed up.
Load game and try the other process again about using showracemenu.

It is some work but maybe we need a clean save? An doing so in testinghall may do the trick.

Consider getting rid of any items your character may have for a clean save also. Maybe wait the respawn period and save again. Goal is to get a really clean save with the old game.

As for not being able to import the face I wonder if it is missing a resource. When you have the old game loaded, note all the mods in the save list to make sure you have them in the new game. This could be an indicator of something missing.

I was hoping someone with some more knowledge would pop in to help but no luck :)

You could try starting another thread with a more specific description like "Can't import face into game" or "CTD on showracemenu" or start both threads. Looks like we need some specific experts before we give up!

Well, we could make many new threads, because those problems are not the only ones. But maybe the facial and body texture problems have something to do with the armor still showing when they are unequipped? There's one problem.

Problem 2: CTD on enemy AI player notice (Entering combat)

Problem 3: CTD on command "Showracemenu" (May be associated with the facial and body texture problem)

I will however, try what you said. Though I will only start OB from the backed up folder alone, I tried that before, and it worked, but still had the same problems. Will try save at the hall, and also wait 3-4 days, which is the default on OOO?

3 day respawn is standard unless you change it. Can you say that in the new Oblivion setup and on a new game you do not get the same CTDs?

I had another thought :)

If the object is to save the character with all their stats and get the textures working how about this approach (it will be long but may get the result you want):

Install clean Oblivion and just add OOO and your race and body mods.
Then try to open an old save. You get a bunch of warnings about content not being available.
The character may not look right either. But save the new game. Exit. Start again and se if it looks OK.
I went through this once where starting a save that had other mods left my character slightly out of wack. But after saving and loading again they returned to normal.

Goal is to eliminate the CTDs on combat and showracemenu. A clean install will do that as long as it lets you load an old save whose mods no longer exist. The only time I could not do that was whe I had weather mods.

Just another approach. This way if it woorks you can add mods bit by bit until you have everything back but with a clean game as the old references would be removed.

New saves, AND the old saves other than this "Oldest most progress main save", work on both backed up and new Oblivion.

I may also add something I just found out, while waiting 4days in testinghall, throwing all of my appearently over9000 objects, I then saved inside the lockpick room, and noticed, while having my stats menu up, that the sub category: Race, comes up empty, and when I hover my mouse over it, I got a CTD.

Also, when reloading the save after waiting 4days and throwing my items, the character came up totaly invisible, without any texture showing at all, showing that, something worked. Now I'll try showracemenu, but probably won't work because of the race not showing up in my stats menu and the CTD when mousing it. But I will give it a try.

Also noticed that when reloading, many quests that automaticaly comes up on a new save, yet again appeared, although I have already completed them, also all auto added items came added again. Is this a effect of the testing hall?

Edit: Showracemenu did not work this time either. And as for that other way, re-install Oblivion yet again... I would do that as a last resort^^

Should not be affected by testing hall, it is only a test place.

The race menu not showing means you are missing a race mod. Did you double check the imports in the bashed patch? Also, after loading, wait a bit (30 seconds) before doing anything, just in case things need to get processed first. But that is a good clue you found.

Quests not being done is either the loading did not finish before you looked or it is a save that did not have them done, I would hazzard to guess.

Waited for a while before doing anything, still got a CTD on showracemenu. Also checked my bashed patch, hooked on all import files, still didn't give any result.

AT this point you could spend alot of time to fix it, if it can be fixed Consider the new game approach. Just load Oblivion and patches, race mods, and OOO. Start a new game (hopefully you have a skip tutorial mod) and see if showracemenu works. Then try bringing an an old save.

From your previous posts, you seem to be missing a race mod for your elf or maybe a version difference?

Installed all the race mods I had in my Mod folder, which is the same folder I used for the old Oblivion. Did not work, but I installed CS. Hopes that in one way or another, I could access the save in a .ini format or something, and change some values manualy, like the race tab for example, and then, access the showracemenu afterwards, and go with the Mystic Elf installed newly, sounds like a plan?

Just need to know HOW to actualy do it^^

Sounds like a plan.

Wish I could help with that, never done. So it is trial and error. You seem savvy enough to figure it out :)

Unless, you can look on TES Alliance. They have alot of helpful people about modding and such things.

At this point I would have given up and started over :)
