oblvion custom dialog

hello for my new mod I would like to use voices, of course no one likes to read textbars, so was the thought.
but problems comes with creating the lip-files I used the old construction set (since the new one was the generate lipfile option was broken)
and made from my wavefile (441000HZ 32Kb) into a lip file. In game the person sometimes opens his mouth and sometimes not.
I even retried it with the record option in the constructionset itself (441000HZ 16KB) and it didn't work.
i read that it must be 441000HZ and 64KB but I havn't seen a converter who can do that.
by the way the voice in game did work.

please help me out

Hi. I'm no master by any means, but Ill outline what I did to get this working and at least then you have something to match up your own experience to:

I use Audacity to record voice. Default settings and then File->Export as Wav to save the file.
Then I use the old CS, rename the file accordingly and generate the lip sync file.
The sound file name and the lip sync file name are then changed back to the name set by the new CS (which his of course always different to the one used to generate the lip file)
I then use mp3encode on the files to produce the MP3 files from the wave files. These, along with the lip file are then copied into the relevant folder in the Oblivion/Data folder.

Following this procedure I never once had an error and all of the lip files worked fine.

Sorry I cant help directly, but maybe this will help a bit anyway, even if it only proves to you that your voice and lip files were created correctly so you can start to look elsewhere.

I also used Audacity to record voice, but I have some questions:

1. Wich format settings did you used?

2. Does the quality of your record affect the lipsync? ( right now i am using a file with this weird buzzing)

Format? No idea, I didn't even look, I just jumped in with whatever the default settings were. I was experimenting and just took a shot at it without changing anything.

As for the recording quality, no I don't think so. I had no buzzing, but if I remember rightly there is something that says that the way in which the lip sync works is as much to do with the typed words in the dialog box as with the actual voice file. I found that the lip sync was fairly rough but certainly better than nothing. As I say, this may or may not have much to do with the actual recording; my mic is a very basic one on an old headset.

I recorded about 100 voice files, using Voice Changer Diamond that my friend has; it works, but only in a very small range (at least with my mic), and I eventually gave up because I had no one to do the female voices, and because most of my own attempts at changing my voice came out sounding as if they should be in the Simpsons, not an Oblivion mod!

For my current project I have planned to use just text with the silent voice sound files, mainly because Id otherwise need about ten male and female voice actors. I have a very large city area almost built and (so far) ten smaller settlements planned on paper, so just for the general population I'm looking in excess of 100 NPC's, and all of them would need voices, or none of them!

Anyway, good luck with this. By all means ask any questions, but as I said, I jumped in and didn't actually change anything in Audacity.

I made also a town for my mod and I used chorrel style buildings, because I don't like the look of Bruma and chorrel togheter. My mod was built in the new Constructionset so I didn't type the tekst in the old construction set, when I created the lipfiles, I should try this out thank you. I'm very curious about your town please tell me about it. (style, quests etc)
