OBMM Help Needed Urgently

Post » Sun Dec 19, 2010 2:45 pm

Hi guys, I need your help! I want to install the Oblivion Mod Manager.

I have made some Test Mods (esp files) and need to know if any conflict with one another, and need to know the order that they should be loaded. I heard that OBMM handles this but HOW??

Also, I heard that the esp files get changed to a different file type (I thought ALL mods were esp files!). PLus, is OBMM as good as everyone says?

Anyway, before I download OBMM can anyone give me some advice on this issue. Thank you for reading :)

The best way to start is by downloading OBMM and reading through its documentation. If you are savvy enough to create your own ESPs, then you'll be able to figure out OBMM.

Rather than try to get piecemeal explanations here, that's what I would suggest as a first step. You can always come back with further questions.

OBMM's conflict detector is not much. It is a great tool, but for other reasons...

http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/prep/obmm <-- intro

If you want to detect conflicts between plugins (and not just data files) you should use TES4Edit.

OBMM doesn't handle that, aside from placing esm files first. You'll need to learn about load order yourself to be able to figure that out, and do it manually.

You're probably thinking of OMODs. This is not an autuomatic process, you have to tell OBMM you want one made. Even with OMODS, you'll still end up with an esp file you work with. OBMM doesn't eliminate that, it just provides an alternative method for installing/uninstalling mods instead of doing it manually.

PLus, is OBMM as good as everyone says?

While it's not the only program that can sort your mods for you, it's probably the easiest to figure out and work with. And you need to have some utility that allows you sort your mods, otherwise you end up with conflicts and problems.

OBMM was Great 5 yrs ago, but it's no comparison to http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1089021-relz-wrye-bash-thread-no-41/, you can see your conflicts as well, I would definatly consider it...

OBMM is still great. Nothing wrong with keeping it simple if that is all you need, especially when first starting out with mods.

Absolutely.
BAIN's great, but I suggest reading this very informative site on http://lhammonds.game-host.org/obmm/default.asp and learning it's basics before moving on to more complex utilities like Wrye Bash.

There's nothing wrong with using both OBMM and Wrye Bash.

Actually that was probably My problem with OBMM, I could download just about anything and click Create OMOD, and cram it in there, before long everything I had would be RED, and I'd wind up with a reinstall, I guess Bain just forced me to actually pay a little more attention to what was actually happening...
