OBMM..

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 2:45 pm

well, what i was doing was taking what was downloaded and putting it into a newly created folder. Then i would Add File from that folder, but when the file isnt a .esp, it won't even show up

Use Add archive, not Add File. It'll open the archive, look for an Omod Creation Data folder, import that if it exists, or if not it'll let you fill in that information manually. Give it at least a title that matches the mod, then click Create Omod. It'll take the contents of the archive and make an omod out of it.

You should not extract the downloads. Add the archive itself into the OMOD. Choose "Add archive" to add archives or "Add folder" to add folders or "Add files" to add specific files. You should not be adding the ESPs themselves most of the time. Where is the original archive? You should be adding the whole thing to the OMOD.

well, i installed OOO, it was marked as .esp. I've tried to get mods like Elven Map redux which is a .rar file and Visual Enchantments which is a 7Z file, but when i try to "Add File" under the create new omod i browse to the folder that i've put those files into, and they are simply not there.

PS: What is an archive? I know a file is INSIDE of a folder, is a folder INSIDE of an archive?

What do you mean by when the file is NOT and ESP? Most mod downloads are archives: .7z, .rar or .zip.

Archives CAN contain folder or they can just contain loose files. Either way, do not extract mods randomly before adding them to OMODs. The OOO complete download is a 7-zip (.7z) file. Put that into an OMOD, not the ESP. You should not even have the ESP installed. Oh, shoot...you used the installer didn't you? Uninstall that first. Otherwise, you will have an even bigger mess on your hands...

You're talking about the installer for OBMM, or OOO?

Hmmm...never mind that comment, wrong thread. I was very tired when I posted that last night. Are you able to get through the guide all right?

I suppose so, but im a little confused with the "no extracting before it's an omod" rule. When i downloaded Visual Enchantments and Elven Map Redux, they both downloaded as just a file from tesnexus, not inside of a zipped folder, so i went to my Downloaded folder inside My Documents and moved the file into a new file.

No, those are archives as well. I have downloaded both of those mods before. Make sure you are not choosing "open" when download the files. You should use "save..." and just download all of your mods to the same location.

I successfully downloaded Visual Enchantments and Elven Map! These mods look wonderful! I am eternally grateful for your guidance, Tomlong75210!

Edit: I have one final request, as this was the question that started my epic journey to achieve modded oblivion experience: I have seen many videos on youtube where the inventory of the character is much more spread out, and you can say many more items/spells/potions at the same time on the list, instead of the messily 6-7. Is this a mod, or does this have something to do with my video settings? If it is a mod, would you happen to know its name?

Okay. Do you think I should a short page about downloading mods? I would add a piece about the browser process: What are archives? How do you save them? Where are files saved by default? How do you change the default save location? Do you think that information would be useful?

Also, please read the Downloading Mods and Installing Mods pages for a heads up as you add more mods. The information should save you some trouble in the future.

Happy gaming!
